Yes absolutely!
I was going to ask you why you were up, and not asleep like e.one else, but I just noticed you're from Sydney, right?

About par for me. Lots of good images in the challenge... also a lot of DNMC if I'm going to be critical. |

It is generally considered bad form to post outtakes and 'almost entered' shots in the forum until after voting is over. Let those that entered the challenges receive the views and comments and votes, and wait until after to get critique and comment. Cheers! |

I have to agree to disagree, one must keep an open mind with this challenge, there's a lot to see if you only want to though ;)

Sure, but the definition of fractal is pretty static. I can have an open mind and call an apple an hammer, but at the end of the day, it's still an apple. |

That's what I felt about "Missed Focus" but somehow that topic always gets a bunch of high scoring, sharply focused motion blur entries. One man's creative interpretation is another's clear-cut DNMC.

And then there are people who would look at an apple challenge and decide that only Red Delicious apples are truly an apple and give DNMC votes to all the rest when in reality there are many kinds of apples: Gala, Granny smiths, yellow delicious and dozens of other varieties. I think that is what we mean by keeping and open mind. Just because it doesn't fit into a narrow definition of what something should be doesn't mean it is DNMC. |

Not the same thing. Different kinds of apples are still apples regardless if you think Red Delicious are the best. A fractal is just like an apple, there's an exact definition even though it can take many forms and shapes, but it's still a fractal. Keeping an open mind doesn't mean submitting an orange to an apple challenge and saying, well they're both fruit, so no DNMC.
Sorry, I have research papers on chaos theory, so I'm going to be stringent when it comes to voting on this one.

First, this is a photography contest, not a science exam.
Second, the use of stringent rules sets in science, and in all disciplines for that matter, stiffles creativity and discovery. Back to the scores. Cheers! |
