I know I have not been around for a while but this is a pretty big change! When did this happen? I confess to being a little mystified by the logic - I see taking the time to vote as giving something back to the site, not taking from it.
Don't get me wrong - I intend to renew my membership as soon as I actually have the time to get out and snapping but I just thought that I might have 30 mins or so to throw out some thoughtful votes here. Maybe the odd comment. Guess not. |

Registered members can only vote in the Open challenges. It has been that way since I joined the site in 2006.

the site rules dont say anything about needing to be a paying member to vote. |

I'm pretty sure registered users couldn't vote in member challenges at least since I joined in 2004. |

The site FAQs covers the differences between registered users and members, including that registered users can vote on all open challenges, but not member challenges. |

It seems like there may be fewer Open challenges or a larger percentage of Members Only challenges now, but I could be wrong.
In my opinion, additional member challenge opportunities provide a good incentive to upgrade to paid member status, and that is probably good for the site.
While I am sure a few exist, I doubt many people actually want to vote for more challenges where they have not entered photos. I see voting more as a service to the community and I try to vote as often as possible for that reason, but I don't vote because I just love voting. Also, I sort of like the fact that paying to vote on member challenges has the effect of keeping troll voting to a minimum. |

Fair enough - I have not done much voting since my membership lapsed, I guess I must have just hit on open challenges by chance.
I guess I'll give the voting a miss and head back to the Critique Club! |

Actually, I figured that the easiest thing to do would be ante up the cash. Member again now - I'd better get shooting to make it worthwhile! |
