Surely someone here knows where to purchase or order a cheap plastic/plexiglass/etc frame for a 50" x 32" map I was recently given. I was shocked to see all the framing sites want over $100. I have purchased many poster frames in the 36" to 48" range for $15-20 before so the huge price jump makes no sense to me... Is this just an unusually large size that nobody sells anything reasonably priced for? Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you! |

Most glass and plastic sheet stock is 48" wide, so while a 48" x 32" uses up about a third of a sheet, a 50" x 32" uses up about just over half of a sheet with a lot of scrap the store may not be able to sell, so those two extra inches come at a steep price.
If you are willing to be flexible in the look there are quite a few options out there with through bolting that use plexi as the main structure so you skip the cost of the wood or metal border frame, but it is a look best suited to modern interiors and might not suit the feel of an old map. I buy my sheeting in 4'X 8' sheets and use wood working tools to cut the chunk I need for a project, it is pretty easy to work with.

There is nothing cheap about framing...I used to work in a frame shop. |

Maybe try here? They have live humans you can call and ask questions.
Garden Ridge (if you have one near) often has kits and they have a framing department that is cheaper than the other big box hobby stores.
