I got that problem too. The lens is now at Canon. This problem is very common on the latest batch of 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lenses. There must be a defect in the manufacturing process that makes this a problem for almost everyone buying that lens recently.

Please tell me more about it! What did Canon say about it? Do they take it without any problems and fix it? No official statements about this fault?
I've got this error 2 times in 12 days (used the lens ca. 3 times for a while, number of quick shots), which is high number!
I'm wondering whether i should do something, soon? |

The lens is still at Canon's...I should be getting it back next week. No word yet on what is wrong. Check out the RobGalbraith forum for more on that issue.

I've had the same problem but my lense is non IS and is only recently brought. I have found if I put clockwise pressure in the camera body and anti clockwis pressure on the lense it will not lock up. I just assumed the lense was too heavy for the rebel. |

yes, I too get the 00
update on my 100-400 IS - canon after having my lens for 3 weeks tells my they are having one shipped from to toronto-- my advice to anyone shopping for lens is make sure you shop from stores with decent stock- i special ordered this lens at this particular store, and it would of been a little quicker had they had them in stock. It has been a huge stress, while canon seems to be trying to get my lens back it is long and slow, complicated by small staffs, summer trips ect...
grrr not cheap equipment.
thanks for everyones replies. |

Ok got my Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS back today. I was getting error 1 messages with aperture 00 and the camera was locking up. They changed the "Lens assembly" whatever that is, now it`s working fine! Hooray! So everyone having this problem, talk to Canon, they are aware of the problem but don`t want to publicize it.
