i have a 60D and my yong-nuo flash wont fire either directly connected to the hotshoe or with a radio trigger if the camera in is live view mode. the on-board flash will fire however.

as soon as i take it out of live view the flash works as expected.

is this by design or is something wrong?

sounds like a bug in the embedded software. Maybe report it to Canon and see if a fix can be acquired

My 50D is the same way. I guess I always just assumed it was by design.

The 7D will fire a 580 on camera in live view (was curious so just tried).... dead battery in my radio trigger so cannot test the off came flavour right now. Sounds like the 3rd party did not get all the reverse stuff correct :-(

Hm. I had never tried, so I was curious...

Works on my D300 mounted and with remotes, though it's super clunky since the D300 had some of the earliest live view, so it goes to live view, you actuate the shutter, the mirror closes, then goes up then the shutter fires.

Found a link for you though.

ETA here's another one. Is that you or somebody with your same name on the second one?

Just fired my 430 ex ii on hotshoe and optical trigger from 60d in live view. Also unable to trigger my yn560 on hotshoe in live view.

Well, if I'm reading things right... you might be able to try one of the other silent shooting modes to make it work. Apparently you can disable it, but I didn't check the actual manual. Here's where I found mention of it-
//www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E60D/E60DLIVEVIEW.HTM

Search for "silent" and you'll find the relevant info.

You are correct. When I set 'Silent Mode' to 'disabled' it now works on hotshoe with yn560. It was on Mode 1 by default which is why it was not working.
