I'll be in Copenhagen on business the last week in January, and it just happened to work out that I'll be able to take a side trip (since it's only a 1hr flight) to Berlin on Friday 27-Jan through Monday 30-Jan.
This will be my first time in Berlin, a city I've always wanted to see. There are some touristy things that I'll need to do (Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, whatever is left of the Wall, and possibly the Gedächtniskirche). But I'm open to recommendations on other must-sees, bars, cafes, restaurants, etc... especially great places to photograph street-scenes.
Thanks in advance! |

Yes, you need to do the standards, they are well worth it.
We took one of those tour buses around the city which was fantastic, but you don't get to stop and spend extra time in any one place to take photos :-( Of course there were quite a few things I spotted during that tour that called for spending more time. Ah well.....
Do look out for the little things..... I saw a bunch of interesting details (such as small memorials and quirky little statues), and take a tour BOAT, too..... that little river cruise was great. I loved seeing the underside of the bridges amongst other things.
Look out for the double row of cobble stones that show where the wall used to be - with a bit of time and effort, I'm sure one could get a fantastically composed shot of that.
Try and read up about Berlin some more - there are bunch of little gems tucked away that you don't normally know about (and I am speaking from the experience of missing out on them), such as the book burning memorial.
Here are my tourist snaps of Berlin, in case you want to check them out. |

Here is a transcript of Rick Steves' latest (TV show) tour of Berlin -- he describes a few things not already mentioned here. |
