I just hope many photos in this challenge don't end up with lower scores because some people require front and back bokeh to be present to spell out the difference to them. |
It does seem some voters are being a wee bit narrow minded if they somehow interpreted from the brief topic description that OOF foreground and background are a "requirement" ;)

I didnt mean to insult, I changed my words. Voters can vote as they wish, I wanted only to request to err on the side of caution before dnmcing. Mistake was a better word choice. |

sad part is that many voters don't vote as they wish...here is an example... my score was .9 more than it is now before this educational thread about how bokeh has nothing to do with DOF . Since, I got 12 votes, but the drops in my score were without new votes, as in people were adjusting .... some of you got educated and decided to go back and deduct from images with a bokeh.
I would love to see a pleasing Bokeh created with f20......
My life is not going to change with of without .9 on DPC, however, misleading threads like this are swaying the votes. |

Happy enough with this result. Newer photographer so I wasn't sure if the fore and background should be OOF so I played it safe and went with that. I'm learning a lot with this thread though! |

Agreed, I have always personally thought that while challenges are in the voting stage it should be against site rules to speak about them in the forums, I find it strange that they even have a current challenges section encouring talks on current challenges.. even the simplest of comments duirng voring can be taken wrongly and sway votes.
But we can speak about them so here we are.. this thread has made me glad i decided on a front and back bokeh though, or I'd probably be the victim of down-voting for the wrong reasons too. Being voted down because somebody thinks my photo is crap is fair enough, i can live with that.. but getting a low vote due to someone being wrongly educated in a thread would be quite annoying. |

Well, I think I'm getting hammered for too little bokeh

Can't help but wonder, don't voters realize that this is a shallow dof challenge? Are they simply voting thinking that everything needs to be in tack-sharp front-to-back focus? |

I'm pretty sure that the voters in this challenge have no idea what they are voting on.

But aren't some of the voters also the photographers? So theoretically you can get 115 or so of your 150ish votes from people who knew what they were shooting, assuming most of the people who entered voted. Probably not the case... |

only slight explanation to why ppl hate it as always, ppl are quick to throw out the "great shots" but the really useful slating comments are few and far between ppl seem to be getting more reserved on honest negative comments
maybe we should have a check box that says "im an adult, tell it as you see it. i wont respond whinging on pm or be offended"
also ive got nearly double the views of everyone else posting around the 45 votes mark, so ppl are definetly looking at mine hehe but not liking it for a score just to look at!

Maybe we should have some challenges in which one can vote only if he wrote some text in the comment box? |
