I agree with the "heater" answer. Maybe it's for heat recovery, and goes in the flute pipe for a heater to gather more heat from the exhaust of a heater and put the heat into the room it's in.

This is correct. Connects to the stovepipe of the woodstove and has a fan that blows the heat through. So it's not a "heater" per se - more like a heatilator. Waddy's up, I think. |

Strangely, I have never seen one. It's always warm here, so we don't have them.
