Not either of those — here's a slightly wider-angle view which may help ...

Boy that's a head scratcher... and hopefully it's not literally that, 'cause that could be really painful!

Looks to me like it is intended as a press for something??

More a clamp than a press ... I have to go pick up Isaac at school -- I'll post more explanatory photos this evening if no one has figured it out by then. Honestly, I can't believe I've stumped you guys twice ...

Robot nipple clamp?

Is it used with food at all?

Is it a clampodicktomy tool?

Does it hold a fish while you clean it?

Uh ... no, yes, no, no ....

Toaster?
03/26/2014 09:52:44 AM · #6360
Paul, this is driving me crazy. Is it for use with fruit, veggies, meat, or other? Is it a regionally common item, all over common, or uncommon device? Any other hints you can give?
03/26/2014 10:12:13 AM · #6361
I'd never seen one until I found it in a thrift store ... but it was obviously common enough at some point to justify mass production using stainless steel.

Toaster is actually the closest guess so far ... I have to run a couple of errands and then I'll post some better views.

Are you saying you don't know what it is?????

No, I know exactly what it is, I'd just never seen one before. I do have another something I'm holding in reserve that I don't know exactly what it is, but I'm hoping someone here can ID it, though I wouldn't drag it out once a few people have checked it out.

Is it for making s'mores? Or cooking hot dogs on a grill?

"Slice-a-Slice" (Pat. 2772538-2206154)

You clamp a slice of bread in it, then run a knife down the gap to make two extremely thin slices of bread, for those fancy "tea sandwiches", canapés. etc. Notice the tiny wooden "cutting board" at the bottom ...

Other than being terrified of scratching my bread knife, I think I kinda want one of those... Do they make them in plastic?

Make one yourself. How hard could it be?

You know, that's a good idea. I think I could print one at shapeways for pretty darn cheap.

Or you experiment with a $2 thrift store bread knife ... if you want to make one with a 3-D printer I could send you this one to scan or measure if that would help ...

L I B It is a bread slicing tool. Very cool tool.
To make a sort of similar item, you could hinge two cheese graters with a dowel at the bottom, but, you would not have the "sides" that guide the knife blade so that the edge of the blade does not hit the metal.

You could make your own two side plates if you were handy with a pistol.

Shit brother, you know me too well... I got to that point and thought "well heck, that sounds like fun!" .. LOL.

I suspect measurements aren't really needed, and I've got pretty much all the theory on the item I need. Frankly, the idea was the spurring moment, and I rather love the idea. Thanks for the offer though, I appreciate the thought GeneralE.

Now, let's see if I can run solidworks. :D

"Placeholder" is just the name of the folder/gallery its posted in ... I can mmove it to the Workshop folder if that's less confusing ...
