Well my 550D started having an unhappy shutter this year... Since last spring the shutter has started to make more noise.. As the temperature got colder this winter it began giving an error 20 message. Last week it stuck on error 20 with the shutter stuck while out shooting. Lovely. Not wanting to send in a Rebel to pay almost as much as the camera is worth to have it fixed, I dove into taking it apart head first. I thought that the camera would be a loss, so I wasn't overly worried about this project at first.

never mind that it is upside down here... late and I am tired. There was a little broken piece of plastic inside here jamming the shutter from releasing all the way. Didn't seem to affect operation so I removed it.

About an hour and a lot of dropped tiny little screws all over the counter later..

SUCCESS!! So far... I have to test it in the light tomorrow to see for sure. But it actually works! After I got everything apart I figured I had a 30% chance of getting it back together and working again. It was difficult to keep all the screws in order. I used zip loc bags

Autofocus test.. seems to work. Getting the torx screws aligned and shimmed right was VERY tense!

I used this as a guide-----
ASSEMBLY GUIDE FOR CANON

Next time I am going to swap the filter on the sensor for UV/IR capability.

Why does it look like there are still two tiny screws on the tables next to the "reassembled" camera? : )

awesome work buddy! I know how it feels because when I was young I used to sit next to my father and brother and they did all kind of fixing including TV, computer, Camcorder all the way to digita SLR. I have seen them opening Nikon SLR all the time and fixing issues. It feels good when issues are getting resolved!

Why I can't see the images? My camera broke recently and I'd like to fix it.

Thanks
