I dropped a Mamiya RB67 with a 90mm lens into the cooling pool at a nuclear power plant...
After that and for the next few hundred years, it's considered nuclear waste. Damn. |

Gee I was sure it was going to be that big ol' rolling log that did the deed. I guess the lesson is, do not leave your camera alone while shooting waves in the tidal wash? I did not think that was a lesson that needed to be taught, but I guess I was wrong. |

This almost happened to me about 6 months ago...i was out shooting a seascape and a gigantic piece of seaweed washed ashore. As it was receding back into the water it got tangled behind my legs and was dragging me in. Thank god i planted the tripod into the sand as hard as i could to avoid it dropping while the water was going all around it or me, the tripod, and 5D MK II would have been toast :O

There is a reason why people are told to watch the ocean for approximately 20 minutes before approaching the water...waves come in sets. |

He says in the comments below that BH is replacing it for him. Why would they do that? |

I think she was joking. Texas has been in a drought. I think the water was deported to Mexico or something. |

I had my a section of my camera bag fill with water very close to that beach a couple of weeks ago. I set my bag down on what I thought was a high enough rock, removed my camera from the lower part of the bag, left the bag open (I was only going to linger for a moment to get a shot), and the next wave or swell just kept rising and rising.
I quickly grabbed my open camera bag before the water could pour over the rest of the dividers where, among other lens, were my Nikon 70-200VR and my Nikon 28-70 f2.8 lenses. I poured the water out of the bag and had to thoroughly wash the bag to remove all of the salt. |
