Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and of course I would like to properly introduce myself. I don't do this much because I'm a little shy/nervous with forums but it seems like people are very welcoming here. =) My name is Kari. I'm from San Diego, CA. My love for photography started out when I was in high school and I decided to join Photo class and continued for my remaining high school years. I shot with a Nikon D50 and a Rebel XT, also a few Nikon and Pentax film cameras(I don't remember the models) owned by my school. I started my own (very small) collection of cameras with a D40, which I had to sell because I needed money for a car. I finally got a surprise check from my old job and I decided I just had to get another camera because I've been without one for 2 years. I now have a D7000 and my Canon S90 for whenever I don't feel like lugging the D7000 around. Anyway, I hope that's not too much of a background but I look forward to entering in some of the challenges here. =)

Yes, Kari. People are very welcoming here...you've landed in the right place so there is no reason to be shy. You've got a great camera in the D7000, now it's time to start entering some challenges.

Welcome to DPC!

Well, if you love fishing, I used to own a fishing tackle shop in San Diego, at the foot of Canon street where it butts into Shelter Island. I'm a native San Diegan, though I moved East to Cape Cod when I retired. Point Loma HS, class of '64. So "HI!" back atcha.

I'm glad that you were finally inspired to join by an image that I captured. That's probably the best compliment on this photo yet!

I look forward to seeing some entries of yours here.

Spent some years in Point Loma as most of my Navy training was centered there. Boot camp at NTC/RTC, Basic Electricity and Electronics..also on NTC. Then across the road to FLEASWTRACENPAC for "A" and "C" school, and numerous other Sonar related schools. Even spent my last couple of years on shore duty at FLEASWTRACENPAC after my ship was decommissioned. I was a tech in the training labs.

I know the whole of San Diego county very well, and spent countless evenings patronizing the local Point Loma establishments on Rosecrans. Also spent a lot of time around Shelter Island since it was basically right around the corner from the bases.

Robert, what year did you leave the San Diego area? I wonder if you were there during my 7 year enlistment. With the exception of a yard's period of nearly 1.5 yrs in Seattle I was there between 1984 and 1991. I lived in Chula Vista which has changed even more since I left.

I miss my Carne Asada burritos from Adalberto's in Point Loma. God, they were awesome.

My house a block and a half up the road from Adalbertos :-) I moved out here in, I think, 1999, maybe it was early 2000...
