And I really like my effort on this challenge submission, which is way out of my comfort zone. It's too bad the image is receiving such a harsh reception. This may discourage me from trying new techniques and subjects in the future. My wife really likes the image, too. She thought I nailed the challenge. (Evidently not.)

Don't let this stop you. Never let this stop you!

The average vote given is based on their ability to understand your works. Not, on your ability to produce a great image. It is not a reflection on you, but a reflection on them.

But then again you have to accept the possibility that your work may be....shit! We all do! It's one of those things about art in general. To be honest, I think it is often pride and egos that blind us from the possibility of seeing beyond our own paradigm. Quite frankly it's simple: you have to be your own worst critic. It's really as simple as that. None of the negative comments I've ever received have been a surprise to me. Honestly it's typically something I've already thought of and was either unable to too lazy to correct.

As far as the voter interpretation, I offer you this... If you are submitting your work to be judged by the masses (i.e. DPChallenge) then if you want it to do well, it better as hell have a solid mass appeal (that is what the votes indicate). You can't have the image be so "deep" that average joe shmo can't tell what the hell it is and then bitch and moan for how voters "interpret" your work. If your work is targeted towards a narrow audience, then the score distribution will reflect that.

There is no questions that there are trolls here who play games with the votes, others vote emotionally based on the votes they themselves receive. Yet all things consider, we have to trust that math will eventually average out and best works will get the recognition they deserve (although perhaps not as high as they deserve through higher scores). Just my 2¢ :)

Enjoyed voting on this challange and very disappointed I didn't get a shot in:
You have rated 106 of 106 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.5377.

So many great images, some good attemps but lacking a little polish, some interesting take on the theme and only a very small few that didn't quite meet the challange in my opinion. Well done everyone.

So I am sitting at just under 100 votes, 210 views but not one comment.
If you have voted already (dont change your score) and have time to comment, let me know and I will PM you my title.
Thank you kind souls!

I've dropped below 4 twice in this challenge (low point of 4.7 I think), but finally it looks like I'm out of that zone - and also finally my noir score has overtaken my abandoned building score, which I'm pleased about since I like this shot and am not so keen on that one =). Voting's been pretty odd though, it seems people love and hate my image equally, my last few votes in order have been: 10, 1, 7, 3, 9, 3, 7, 3, 9, 4... if at least some people like it I'm happy with that though!

Sure, I'm happy to do that - and if you'd like to be the first to comment on mine that'd be appreciated too =).

...and another 1 vote without leaving a comment (that's 3 today). It's starting to sting! At least my image isn't completely comment-less now (thanks again Steve).

My score is still at 5. I finally got a comment, which is informative.

I voted this morning, with a very high average score. But I am in the weirdest mood now. I shouldn't have started the day with Film Noir. :D

Like I said in another thread, I give 10's to images that I think are crap, but there is nothing technically wrong with them. To add there are absolutely beautiful images that I give 5's to, but list the technical aspects that are not right.

All good comments. Some really like the image and a couple of comments where the voter gave a decent vote and listed the compositional shortfalls that prevented a higher vote (which are much appreciated).

Doing well so far in this one, but this challenge has taught me something. Before I hit submit I need to check the tones on a different monitor/device or many... I do my Photo editing on my Mac and the Mac monitor has very dark blacks and bright sharp tones. Then I open it on a windows desktop and the contrast is much brighter and a little flatter.

Lesson Learned! I'm sure others have seen the same issues, but for those that have not yet... make sure your looking at the web version of your photo on more than one monitor/device to make sure it's what really should go out :)

...and just got my second comment (first without asking) =).

Anyway, I'm done with voting on this so if anyone's wants a comment on their entry just let me know which yours is.

Yeah, I used my friends mac recently - he's a graphic designer and uses this monitor for the majority of his work (and his work colleagues use similar monitors I believe), so I was actually pretty appalled at how bad they are at showing definition in darks - especially considering how much apple market to this target audience.

The blacks are very blocky on the glossy Mac screens, so it behooves us who use them to really watch our histograms.

But I popped in here to say how much I enjoyed voting this challenge, no comments, 100% votes though, w/avg near 6.
