I went ahead and put up another show at Starbucks Niskayuna. This is actually the 1 year anniversary of my first show there. I am not happy it ended up in July again...but I was scheduled for May and they double booked again (hmmm, same as last year).
Anyway, I figure free exposure is just that. So here's my shots:
I made sure to use completely different works this time, not that anyone would remember what I had last time!
I didn't think I sold any at my last coffee shop--professor Java's, but in fact, I later found out they sold one right off the wall (I didn't even notice when I took them down...but figured out later they sold my "Geometry in Steel" photo (on canvas). They took 15% and took care of eveything and sent me a check.
Now, I figured this time I would put out an order form. But when I hung today at Starbucks, they told me that I cant put out ANY sales materials. I can only put out a sign with my "Photography by Neil Shapiro" and my website. That's a bit disappointing. But at least I can put out my website. But this will probably be my last Starbucks show. (Slow learner ;) )

I hope you have more luck this time around Neil.
I've been entering in the local art fairs here in Seattle. I did get a 3rd place in the Shoreline art fair with a $125 prize. But better than that the event coordinator bought it as well. She runs an art gallery and asked me to do a future show there. Plus I've got a month long show at another venue coming up in December. Mine was the only one sold, a sucky economy I guess. All you can do is keep showing and hoping for the best. |

Well... At least it looks very nice... And your artwork will come home smelling delicious ;)
Seriously, it is exposure. Can you leave business cards? Maybe somehow affix them in a non-permanent manner to the art itself? |

At first they said no business cards; but I have one set of business cards which only have my name, web address, and a photo. So they said that was ok.
I'm working on a new sign, with my name, web address, and artists statement.
I will also produce a sign with a description of where each photo was shot. |

I love when shops show local art and photography. It's so much better than corporate mass produced art/prints. Nice showing. I hope you get some business from it.

Congratulations! Even if you don't sell anything, think of all the folks who enjoyed your pictures - maybe brightened their day, or encouraged them to try something they'd been hesitating about. |
