Still having problems here... tried multiple machines... cleared cache, deleted cookies, rebooted, cleared history and nothing seems to make it any better. After I attempt to access the voting page, I generally have to logout of dpc and log back in to get anything to work correctly. The command buttons in the forum will not come up either after I try to access the voting page...

John,

Did you note what image it was sticking on?

drew, it varies for me, but right now, i tried again and i got free_study again. i have also cleared my cache, deleted history, and rebooted several times. i haven't deleted cookies though, could they have something to do with it?

ok. i tried several times now. most frequently, it is free_study.jpg. i got p7120003.jpg a couple of times. i also got free06.jpg once and macro.jpg once. then i decided to give up. sigh! ;)

I''ve been able to completely load the voting thumbnails page three times now, as well as download the entire voting section to an Acrobat PDF (faster to look at the pictures off-line). I''m using AOL 6/Windows ME/DSL. I didn''t try NetScape.

Sorry to not be more helpful -- usually I can make any hardware/software screw up. Last week, I got a forum thread to display squeezed into a column about 3" wide on the left, and big black blocks (think 2001: A Space Odyssey) on the right. But it went away soon...

Drew,

I tried twice and stuck on mtnflower.jpg and free_study.jpg in that order... Another common piece is that the next thumnail that does not load on my screen each time is the PIPE DREAM photo, so I would check into that one as well.

Another note... Everything seems to work fine until I enter the vote.asp page. Once I go into that page and hang up, no graphics load correctly on the site until I logout and log back in.

i just checked, for me, also, pipe dream is the next shot that doesn't load.

Pipe Dream, I believe, is the free_study photo.

It may still have a problem possibly... it doesn't matter what image I think I'm locking up on.. that one is the next one on my screen that will not load the thumbnail. Maybe the people who are not having problems have voted on that one already...

Nope, I haven't voted on that one yet. Here's a suggestion, but you'll have to be kinda quick, and I don't know if it will work.

Do whatever you have to do to get the images on the vote page started loading. But before they get very far, hit the stop button. That should give you an "invisible" link to the image where the thumbnail is causing problems. Click on that link (Pipe Dream), vote, and see if that helps the next time you try to load the thumbnail page.

To be honest, I suspect it won't. I have the feeling that the corrupted image is somehow in your cache and doesn't want to go away. And just because you've changed the webpage the image is displayed on, does not mean it will have any bearing on the whether or not a cached image is downloaded from the site instead of your cache.

My cache isn't the problem.. I have cleared it manually and also reset the browser to verify on each load... I will try the stop suggestion and see what i come up with....

I had problems with different files, but they where gone after Drew did the change on the free_study.jpg and a reboot.

I just came to think of it that a proxy-server, either installed at the workplace or at the internet-provider, acts like a cache. Maybe the ones who are still having problems are behind a proxy-server and therefor are still using the bad file that is on the proxy-server?

I did what patella suggested.. I voted on the pipe dream photo even though i could not see the thumbnail or the image... i temporarily voted it a 1 so it would fall to the bottom of the list. After logging out and logging back in, I loaded the vote.asp page and all the thumbs displayed except the pipe dream image and i hung on the free_study.jpg file so I believe, somehow, this may be your culprit image...

Wait, you mean....

I WAS RIGHT!?!

Man, will miracles never cease....

Another test indicates that local cache has nothing to do with the problem... I went to another computer that has never seen dpchallenge before and got the same problem... however, I had a second thumb that would not load on the "Grifo" or "Gripo" photo also...
07/15/2002 01:12:10 PM · #45
Drew, May I suggest a temporary removal or disqualification of the "Pipe Dream" photo as a test to see if it is causing the site to misbehave?

What did u find?

Remie gave me the idea. Everyone who was still having the problem seemed to be at work ... so I figured your network was caching the bad image. I renamed it in the database, so you'd have to grab the new version. All seems well.
