This is so true, i still haven't a clue whats going to well or not, i usually ask somebody, and i'm doing much better since. |

One of the things I have said frequently is that if I don't undertand why one photo is not scoring as well as another, there is something I am missing. In my experience over the last four months it typically boils down to one of these issues:
1)Perhaps many folks are viewing it as a DNMC issue (legit in my opinion or not).
2)There is something in my technique of shooting/presentation that is not up to par that I don't understand isn't up to par due to my newness. I look at the first shot I entered when coming back to this site 4 months ago and almost giggle. I was sure it was the greatest photo ever, but even with a few months of developing on this site it appears laughable to me.
3)I have made an error in editing or finish quality that I am not spotting. Have a couple of photos that have fallen victim to this. And will probably have more (I am still new : ) )
4)or maybe this great new idea I shot is (Unbeknownst to me) so used and tired on THIS SITE, that it will take a beating it may not deserve on its own merits.
Over all, I have decided to keep entering challenges, take my beatings and learn what it takes to be a decent submitting photographer on this site. I may never end up being a Larus, NightPixel, Judi or what-not. But if I can get in the high 5 points on this site, then my photography will be considered more than adequate in most other places.
You don't learn to play chess well by playing lesser players. Only by getting my "ass" handed to me by experts taught me how to play. I feel this is a similar environment.

| I got actual criticism from Zepcrmc that made sense and was relevant (yes, it was brief) to what he thought was wrong with the image. I guess I got lucky. |

i still have his comment. he said he didn't like one thing about my photo, but liked another. he may have even given me a 6 coz my score went a bit higher when i got the comment.
now that 6 is gonna get scrubbed, along with the 1s and 2s he gave some of you. good for you guys, but not for me. :( |

| I PM'd him a couple times today. He was afraid to enter a competition because he didn't want anyone judging his work. Seems like he was a bit uncomfortable so he was lashing out a bit. He was not sure if entering a challenge and have people judge him would help him grow or team him down. He apologized to me and everyone, he did not intend on making anyone angry. Seems he was trying to make a point about the general structure of DPC and he had a hard time believing that anyone would be unaffected by scores and comments. He has a point for sure. My mood changes due to my score. Something that is hard to deal with since we put so much into our work. |
