Can anybody recommend a good picture management software. Ideally one that will help catalogue pics by Date, or Subject, or whatever else one might want to do.
Right now I have my pics in folders by date, but if I don't remember exactly when I took the pic, it can take quite some time to find the one I want.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try PICASA!!! It lets you have a 15 day free trial. Mine is just about up and I am leaning heavily toward buying it. I believe they are coming out with and upgraded version, with added features such as cropping, sometime in january.

I use ACDSee and have found it to be very helpful. You can create albums and (my favorite) can assign keywords to photos in batches as well. For instance, I can highlight a whole bunch of pictures and add the keyword "christmas" to them and then go back and customize the keywords more for each picture. The search of the keywords is pretty good too.
I think there's a trial for it on their website. //www.acdsystems.com

Has anyone used Thumbs Plus for this? I am really liking it just for general management and some editing purposes, and the EXIF info does not go away when you modify an image, a big plus to me since PSP doesn't do that, nor any of my other software programs I use for the photos. It's reviewed at //www.steves-digicams.com , as well as other software programs, you might want to check there.

I like ACDsee .. it's very flexible, you can create virtual albums (the pictures stay in their original place), it's fast to display (quality not perfect but still good).
I use it to browse my picture, show them to friend, and setup windows to call photoshop when I do a 'shell edit' from acdsee so it calls photoshop instead of the built in editor.
It has a 'calendar' feature that display the picture by date/month regardless of their folders ... I guess .. that kind of do everything.
I found other tools no as fast.

I would suggest IMatch from Photools
Can do categorizing, captioning, IPTC and EXIF metadata support, batch conversion, watermarking, label printing, excellent removable media support and some other stuff too. You can get a 30 day trial version at the web site. |

Thumbs Plus v5. I use it for finding and then sending pics to PS. To view a slide show to winnow out unuseable photos I use Polyview.
