Dunno, in some ways I'd feel pretty damn complemented by this. Clearly there is a lost revenue thing, but for the most part the people using this would have used a free image no matter what, so there's (in reality) probably not much "real" lost revenue. |

My Dad nearly patented the "frisbee" before I was born, but it became too large a process and he lost interest and didn't follow through. THAT is a pisser! |

Lee and the other guys at F-Stoppers is doing a contest to help raise money for the guy's lost revenue. You design a t-shirt and you if you win, you get a shirt and a nice camera bag.

this is one of the most bizarre stories i've ever heard. i can't tell if the guy wants any help or if no one really wants to step up and help him. on one hand, he's making half-hearted efforts to reach out to infringers, but then he simply shuffles off if they blow him off. i don't understand is why his employer, aol, has done nothing to try to help him out.
it comes across like someone kicking a shiny stone, picking it up and thinking, "that's pretty," and continuing on their way, only for the person behind them to discover it to be the tip of a mountain of diamonds. even though he did it all on a lark and never intended/imagined that it would go viral/worldwide, it's hard to determine if he really feels exploited, if he wishes he could exploit it, or, if he's just utterly bewildered by the whole thing.
huge kudos to national geographic for doing the right thing!
the only thing worse would be if strikeslip's plethora of expressions went viral...

Now we know where Slippy got the idea for relocating that squirrel. |

I realize that you are just trying to be funny, but I find this one in bad taste.
This is a thread showing the stealing and unrightful use of someone's artwork, so that somehow makes it ok to do the same in the very thread? |

The guy made it clear that he enjoys seeing the pic out and about - it's only people trying to make money off of it that it bothers him - and even then not enough to do much about it. So while I understand where you're coming from, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of my use of it.
...not that you couldn't nail me on previous offenses. ;-) |
