But even me being 115(about) and 5'9" am not that bad! |
That may be true, for you, but not all people are shaped the same. Just browsing the various models on one or two pages will show that. Some women do have more pronounce bony hips and some have a more gradual curve...I think the model in question fits into the first category. |

And that's exactly what I thought when I first looked at it. She simply seems to be "resting" on the curve of her hip -- sticking it out, if you will. I think people are getting quite used to seeing fat in their everyday lives, that when they see average weight in others in such photos, something doesn't click with them. |

then the placement of her arm is messing with me... it just... doesn't look right.

It "doesn't look right" to me, either, but one website (I can't remember which) showed a before-and-after photoshop comparison, and frankly I couldn't see a difference. I'm glad I'm not alone. |

The point is that to the people who put together the photospread, she is so overweight that she needs to be photoshopped into the realm of the minimally acceptable by lopping off part of her ribcage.
If you were talking about what 99% of american males find attractive, they like a much wider variety of body types are acceptable than in the fashion industry, where any woman you might find playing tennis professionally or posing for Playboy, would be considered too fat. In fact looking at what goes out the door of a bar at 2AM the average american male seems to prefer bipeds. Anything biped is acceptable. |

The ridiculous-skinny phenomenon is not just a female model thing. Look at some of the male models on the runway shows.. They look like a good gust of wind will blow them away. So unhealthy.
At the end of the day the models aren't there to look good. They're there to make the clothes look good. The designers probably perceive any extra lumps and bumps unflattering for the clothes but then what are the designers really getting paid for if they can't even design clothes that'll look good on normal, healthy people?
And that photoshop job is eh? Maybe people need an anatomy 101 class before they're allowed to work on models. |
