My reaction reminded me of an earlier thread of "You know you are a photographer..."

Saw this video story on CNN Mystery Piano Found on Sandbar in Biscayne Bay, FL

First thought: the photographer forgot to put it back.

Second thought: Shame about the keys but it would still make a cool prop, I wonder if anyone went and got some shots.

Clearly the work of Sebastian.

My next big photo will involve a piano set on fire in the desert with someone playing it. Good timing I say :)

It was probably left there by yakatme because it was too big to fit in his kayak and too waterlogged to float it behind by the time the shoot was done.
ETA, the link is sort of not working.

Oddly, a couple years ago we had a perfectly good piano show up in "my" marsh, though by the time I heard about it, sadly, it had been removed; protected wetlands and all. They never did get to the bottom of that one.

Ha! How the kayak stayed afloat for more than a nanosecond is beyond me;-)

Anywho, the link does work but they play an annoying commercial before the video story.
There is a link to a newstory with a picture below the video feed that I just noticed this morning.

Grand Piano on the Beach

"Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino says the agency is not responsible for moving such items. And, he adds, unless it becomes a navigational hazard, the U.S. Coast Guard won't get involved.

For now, the piano has become a fancy roost for seagulls."

Miami DPCer's you still have a photo opp!!!!!

Hmmm, with that bit of information I wonder if a group is going around and planting piano's in odd places....definitely not something you see every day.

Shame that the piano was removed before you could capture a shot of it. According to the recent newstory, they have not yet removed the grand piano from the beach and the Agencies are 'stateing' that it is not their responsibility to move it...yet.

Aliens dropped it off because it was rolling around in their space ship and causing trim problems.

Oh, I immediately recognized the 600# piano as "Time Warp" Piano, from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Can only be explained as a cross dimensional transposition.

That is pretty crazy! It would be very cool as a prop!

Didn't Aristotle Onassis have Maria Callas's grand piano dropped from an helicopter awhile back, an ocean away?

Global warming AND oil tankers.

What I like is that they're just going to leave it there (until it becomes a hazard).

Just a bit more of an update as more details come out about the story:

Florida Filmmakers say they placed Piano on Miami sandbar

From the article

This afternoon, Miami New Times reported that husband-and-wife filmmakers Billy and Anais Yeager have claimed credit, saying it was for the final installment of a trilogy titled Jesus of Malibu. Besides Malibu and Miami, he said, they have also placed pianos in Death Valley, Calif., Costa Rica and Guatemala.

AND someone has taken photos of it and it can be currently found in a National Geographic reader photo contest

Meet Suzanne Beard, the Amateur Photographer Who Discovered the Biscayne Bay Piano

from the article

Beard submitted her best shot -- a gorgeous picture of a flock of pelicans alighting on the waterlogged piano -- to the monthly National Geographic reader-submitted photo contest.

It wasn't until yesterday, though, that the Miami Herald spotted her photo and sent their own team out to shoot the abandoned instrument.

Larger picture can be found here National Geographic Week Jan. It is the second photo on the page

Not so fast. A teenager says it's his, and has video to prove it.

Apparently littering/dumping is okay if it's amusing and news worthy?

I got some crap to get rid of. I guess it's okay to dump it on the beach?
