Those are gorgeous, Flash. I can't get anything with my camera...it's REALLY limited in the low-light category. Awesome shots. Thanks for sharing!

Real nice work.
We just got home awhile ago from the fireworks show in Garland, Texas and I was setting here working on my shots :)
We tried to get close and we ended up right underneath the fireworks almost. I almost needed a wide angle lens :)
Again nice captures.

I haven't worked up mine yet, first attempt. I was too close to the launch site and my focus was a tad off. I set it at infinity, but should have been focused a little closer. Got a couple of good ones I'll try and post up soon!

ooohhh, aaaaahhhhh. Those are pretty. Good job!
We're Luthern up here so we can't do the logical thing and have them on Saturday night. No. We have to have them on the 4th. If you listen to Garrison Keilor(sp), you know what I mean. |

For those who can't get out to shoot fireworks, you can make your own here.
Enjoy |

Here are two of my better shots during my first attempt at photographing fireworks. I'm pretty happy with them.
f8.0 ISO100 5 sec. (100-300@100mm)
f8.0 ISO100 6 sec. (100-300@100mm)

Thanks all for the comments and the sharing of your shots. This is the "true" spirit of this site and why I continue to participate.
In the lessons learned category, 6,7, & 8 seconds seemed a bit long and caused too much time on the dark sky, thus resulting in either too much blurr (wind) or diminished colors. 3 seconds didn't give me enough time to capture the "tails" or multiple bursts and made me "time" the shot more. 4-5 seconds seemed to be a "fair" compromise and will be my setting if I get to shoot tonight (rain).
Most importantly, I was really racking my brain trying to figure out how so many of my 100+ shots turned out blurry.....when I was taking extreme caution avoid camera shake. Well......in my set up, I placed a tri-pod leg on the gournd mat that I was using, so each step I took while the shutter was open, moved the one leg slightly. Good reason to have the tripod on solid ground. Sheeesh, I really know better.
Looking forward to more posts.....Flash

Another great trick is to use the bulb feature to hold your shutter open. Simpley put the lens cover over the lens until a big one comes. Put it back on and wait for the next boomer then repeat. You can make every shot look like the grand finale. This works best when there is no buildings or mountains in the shot, just sky. The best my camera can do is 30 seconds, but I've done this in the past with great success. |

My first attempt at fireworks photos - taken tonight
OK, so I don't have DSLR or any of those fancy shmancy lenses, but for a P&S, I think these turned out a lot better than I expected. But then again, I'm pretty easy to please. LOL :o)

Nobody told me you could be too close to fireworks...
Next time I sit further away or get a wider angle lens...I guess I was about 60 yards from where they were being fired from.

I shouldn't have even bothered, since I had a camera but no tripod, parked by the side of a major city street :(
Through the smoke, fog, and streetlights I got one only slightly blurry shot
