I have a new show opening tomorrow. It's just at our Synagogue, but they have a great space for showing, with great lights. I hung 20 canvases today. I had more, but that's all I could fit on three walls without crowding them. And for the first time, I made little info cards to put beneath each photo, with location info, price, etc.

I took some shots of the walls, but the room was still a mess when we were setting up, and there was no one around to move the stacks of chairs...they will do that tomorrow.

My photos will be up until January 2nd. There's an artists reception on December 18th. (And Satuday is the Hannukah dinner, so there will be lots of people to view then (and I'm taking pictures for the synagogue that night).

I'll post better shots when the room is cleaned up. But thought I'd share!

Oh, and they made a nice poster for the lobby for me (and put it on their website):

Good Luck with your show Neil - the exhibit looks terrific! You're sure to sell some of those great canvases with the exposure you will get.

Thanks everyone! The committee member (also a photographer) who helped me set up was so impressed with the photos he offered me another show at the JCC (Jewish Community Center) next year, pending their committee approval.

A tip I learned from him (well I never thought of it)...I've been hanging at the Starbucks using real wire (the kind you use behind the photo). We did this with a loop of fishing line and a knot at one end. The issue though was we had to make a triple know, and on a few it still "slipped" and the line opened.

Anyone know how to properly tie a knot with fishing line that doesn't slip?

@Deb, the prints were done at CanvasOnDemand. They do very good work.

@Bear: Synagography...funny! Quick, patent it!

Hi, newbie/amateur here. So, hello everyone.

I can't post links, but look up fly fishing knots on Google. A basic trilene knot or something similar should work. www.flyfishingnetwork DOT org/knots/trilene-knot.php

With momofilament I like to use a surgeons knot, essentially a square knot with an extra turn on one side, for splices.

For a loop in the middle of a run to hang from, try a Duncan's loop You tube example

the trick with monofillament is that it has very little friction so you need to take more wraps to get enough friction for the knot to bite.

Thanks for the Knot links and tips!

I am going to be there tonight, so I may try to retie a few. One thing I discovered that might be a good "after-fix" is that if I add knots at the two loose ends of the loop, at least the main knot won't slip off the loop and have the photo go crashing to the ground. But unfortunately, the person who was helping me liked to "clip" the ends short, so that may not be possible.

I might also just hope that if they are hanging now, and no one touches them, they won't fall.

We went last night to the synagogue for a Chanukah party, and I was able to get a few pictures of the room in its final show state...and with my trusty fisheye.

The uploads are bigger than default, so you can pick "View Full Sized Image" for a better view!

Thanks. I'm really thrilled about the room. The lighting is fantastic, and really makes the colors pop.

Makes me less enthused to go back to the coffee shop displays (and I have two of those coming up.)
