Sometimes, in front of the camera, they do. In 2010, it's hard to find girls with Vintage "hair styles", anyway.

Hmmm... ideas, ideas... You don't have to show a head, maybe just neck down vintage, I know you're a smart man with many boobs in hand (people, don't try to visualize this one... you can go blind!). You will come up with an idea I am sure :)

I think that is a wonderful idea, but everybody MUST include their editing steps in the notes sections, so we can all learn from it, please!

Bumping this idea.

Good question. I'm going to a friend's vintage store and seeing how far back I can go without busting the bank.

ETA: D'oh, I drove past a gigantic vintage car show yesterday...and will probably have to wait til next weekend before I see another. Dang.

Actually, based on Merriam-Webster, it's not really necessarily about how old something is.

//www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vintage

But be warned, the DPC crowd will expect something old, because it ain't always about the dictionary definition around here.

As far back as you can go. I didn't parse the links but there were two previous Vintage challenges to this one. Thing is, this is an international site, so over here in North America, 200-300yrs old is frickin ancient. In Europe, that's basically yesterday, they have forts and historical sites dating back hundreds of years.

However, most of this site's members are American. American-flavoured vintages usually go over well. Explore the history of your area, make use of any local period-themed parks and shoot there (others certainly do, and ribbon with them).

Above all, have fun and if I may make a suggestion...focus on developing your photography skills more than pleasing everyone here.

I've become somewhat jaded after being here 8 years +, and may be taking a break for awhile, because I get frustrated working hard to produce images that get only a 5.5-6.0 here...but are seen by everyone else in the world as pretty damn good. And no, I don't mean on Facebook and other social media sites, where mindless *likes* and fawning are the norm. I mean when real people (as in those whom I have met in real life) look at calendars which I produced from a compilation of challenge images here, then look up at me and say 'Wow. I had no idea you were such a talented photographer' - and mean it.

But, if nothing else, DPC forced me to learn things...like, buy a tripod; even a cheap one will do. Learn exposure. Learn your camera. Be able to shoot, on Manual, in a completely darkened room or studio. And so on, so forth.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but as some here know too well, I will always speak my mind, and brain doesn't always have a chance to filter out what the fingers are saying. Take from this what you will, and have fun!

This is true, plenty of thousand year old buildings round here, but I've never heard any of them described as vintage. I think of vintage as something within the past hundred years or so at most. Especially in a photo challenge.

You could drive to Quebec City Snaffles... it is fairly old.

Vintage I
Vintage II

Not everything *has* to be over 100 years old. And I highly doubt the pictures of people prominent in those previous challenges are over 100 years old - if so they look darn good and I would like to know their secret;-) Point is, I don't see why it has to become so 'limiting'

"Vintage" literally means age of the grape -- any bottle of wine can be "vintage" as long as it comes from a single year's harvest ... and the challenge description suggests that a wide variety of interpretations are appropriate ...

I think you misread me. I was saying I think of most vintage things as under 100 years old :).

You are correct, apologies. I just reread your original post - I read it too quickly that the darn little 'within' escaped my notice:-)

Hmm the winner of Vintages II depicts a scene that would certainly fall between 100 and 150 years old, if not older. Horsedrawn carriage, grand old manor, and what little can be seen of the people looks like pre-1900 to me.

Maybe we should just make up some arbitrary rules...under 100 years old, vintage. Over 100 years old, antique. Fair? :-0
