i haven't entered any challenges yet, but i was going to enter 'extroardinary' (and then i ran out of time). i was going to try a photo with tadpoles, about 5 between tadpole and froglet stage, in order of more mature. obviously i don't know how well the photo would have come out, but just wondered what people would have thought of the subject. would it have fitted the challenge well?
thanks for any feedback.

If i look at the entry for the challenge, you could have entered it. It looks like that challenge was a free study after all.

Post a link to your picture, you'll get comments.

extroardinary challenge was a VERY open challenge, by this I mean it was VERY open to interpretation. What is extroardinary to one may not be to another. I just wish more people would start commenting.

I have a dilemna. In the extraordinary challenge, we see multiple examples of the same class of subject ... extraordinary flowers, extraordinary bugs. There are so many similar shots that they are collectively not extraordinary, yet individually some are very beautiful pictures. Guess I should vote on individual's pictures since the photographer can't be responsible for what other photographers submit. Hard to stand out from the crowd though.

I agree that what one person may find extraordinary is not to another person. I really thought mine was extraordinary till I saw that I'm down from a 4.2 start to now 3.3. I accidentally told in another forum what my picture was, not really thinking about it. Oh well, don't let what I said affect the vote. Vote if you like the picture. I have had ONE comment and it was horrific..use of foul language and such. I reported it however, but really those kind of comments are unnecessary. And my picture isn't of a flower or bug.

I would also need to see the photo before I pass on judgement. Just by describing it is not sufficient in my opinion.

I also agree that this was a fairly open challenge with a wide variety of interpretations of what defined extraordinary. Speaking of extraordinary, why do so many titles have that word in them? That by itself is pretty extraordinary.

Extraordinary? Or expected - a lot of photo's in past challenge's have had the challenge title in the photo title.

I suppose as voters what we need to do - is look for the extraodinart in each photograph, put ourselves in the shoes of the photogrpaher - or of Wen the eternally suprised ;)

Interesting, I am on 4. something and I need to provide proof!

I have noticed ALOT of Desat rejects in the Extraordinary competition. WHY??

Also WAY too many flowers. Try to think about your photo and the challenge before submitting, if you know everyone and his brother are going to submit pretty (but ordinary) flowers, think of something else. I think the very fact that there are so many flower shots (not all of them even good ones) means that they aren't that extraordinary around here.

I have given more 1's and 2's in this competition than ever before, to people who just didn't think very hard about the challenge. I have also given multiple 10s to the few people who really hit the nail on the head.

If you say you're on 4 something, I'll take your word for it. No proof needed. ;-P

..and then I received a comment (the second one!!) that....

my picture doesn't meet the challenge...(sigh)...
I think my photo is extraordinary (although I had some difficulties translating it well into Dutch, but I see now that even native English speakers had difficulties with that) (no, not with translating it into Dutch :P ), but I guess to you all it isn't..and no I don't have a flower, mine is unique in that sense that there is only one of in the challenge..and I'm on 3.7something now..booohoooohooooooo wine wine

I got a comment saying tilted horizon..I'm not saying what my picture is..but it's not tilted believe it or not. And I've gotten a lot of comments saying..boring, or seen this too many times. This challenge was too open and I think it should have been more descriptive. Anyway..next time.. Oh in the next challenge..Advertisment Revisted, that is a tough one. I'm not sure what is considered an advertisement. The title of the picture or the picture itself? I mean should we be taking pictures of cans of fruit or something? I'm still not sure what to do.
07/02/2004 01:37:01 PM · #18
I', looking forward to the Canned fruits allready :)
Why not do it, it's a product, right?

Just make it interesting....

I am not entering because I will be on vacation next week. But I wanted to do something with a can of Insect Spray and a dead bug!

Simple as that....

No offense or anything, and trust me im no pro yet myself, but your avg vote cast is in the 3's. Before you can be overly critical on others photos, you should be overly critical on your own photos. To me it seems that you vote low because you want to try and make your photo higher.
07/02/2004 02:59:53 PM · #22
I vote low cuz in this extraordinary challenge I see a lot of photos that may not belong so they get a low score from me. I also ask for interpretation of there photo if I have scored it low in hopes that they can help me see another point of view so when viewing other pictures I may be able to see what others were talking about.

Just ask Xion to translate this and get me another beer. :) j/k

Don't think I can translate now on a friday night after a few beers. I will check if I have anything to spare.
