And I will state I have had some FANTASTIC teachers. This guy was not one of them.

I had an art/design professor that told me my sophomore year that there will be people who disparage the ordinary or the commonplace to seem more "advanced". Sorta the way we sometimes rip on our parents as not cool or with the times.

When in reality art is neither common or hip. It is the expression of the moment for that artist, his emotion, his view from his point in the universe. If it is common or uncommon it is only in relation to the viewers..not the absolute of its existence. Sounds weird I know but once you think that way you fear no critique was my design teachers point..You won't try to be fashionable for fashions sake. You will be what is needed. I think his name was Obi Wan or some crap..hehe

That photography professor just happend to be my JUNIOR year and I had been trained to question everything.

Gee hokie that brings back memmories. As the daughter of a College proffessor I was always the teacher's pet or his/her bug. Question everything. 65-72 *grin*

Can I recommend that you shoot a tribute to teachers? That or send us all apples :)

My sincere apologies for my knee jerk reaction here :) I was just thrown when 2 of the first 4 comments thought that my shot was a sick joke. This site is all about learning, and I''ve learned not to look at comments till Tuesday night at the earliest :) I''m especially sorry for having blown my anonymity. I know that''s a major taboo here and in retrospect, I probably could have worded my first post more genericly.

Live and learn :)

I'm sorry you removed it. As a father I can tell you that it is a real fear today.

I don't have children, but I have several nieces and nephews, and I thought you captured fear in a very real and emotional way. That photo if shown on TV with no caption at all, would get your point across and cause awareness to a very evil threat. I thought you did a wonderful job and it was a well deserved 10.

I didn't remove. The site admins had sense enough not to respond till I saw a more representative selection of comments. Their wisdom knows no bounds :)

Maybe more people should go back and examine the fear photos. I know from some of the comments on mine that some of the people really didn't look close. Parking a car at the bottom of a dam pouring water hundreds of feet to show more depth perception? REALLY, look again.

I thought it was to show our interpretation of fear, not someone elses.I''ve been getting this all day "Technically it''s pretty good. I like it. But gotta vote low because it doesn''t really express the emotion....FEAR."
I posted my interpretation of fear.Showing the EMOTION of fear is a whole other pix.

This is interesting... I have been keeping up with this thread and voters definitely are not giving any latitude to the interpretations. This is not abnormal though. Your photo has to meet the viewer's own interpretation of fear. All challenges work this way. It's not necessarily a bad photo, but there has to be something in it that shows a concept of fear to the viewer.

Fear is an emotion that is not equally shared on every subject by every individual.

I agree...I'm pretty tired of reading the same comment over and over. I'm not sure a lot of the voters have much of an imagination (I didn't think it took much to get mine).

Yes.

Well in this case, alot of it had to do in that it was a holiday week. I was travelling, and then I had relatives visiting. She had never been to the U.S., so we couldn't really ignore her and do our usual thing ;) ..

But some of the ideas I had were:

A black and white of a small child huddling in the corner, with large monstrous shadows arrayed around him/her on the wall.

First-person view from a comedian or someone, standing on a stage, looking into the lights and microphone, staring at a crowd of people with their arms folded and their faces blank or even irritated.

Guy looking over shoulder of GF seeing that she's reading a bridal magazine.

Home pregnancy test.

First-person view about to get hit by bus or car.

First-person view standing on a high ledge, looking down at feet and traffic faaar below.

That''s my case too. I always think of this great (in MHO) ideas, but because I lack the time AND models/actors I would like, I end up shooting always objets or as in this case, myself.

Good topics magnetic...especially the home pregnancy thing....I can visualize a macro shot of the blue/pink thing with the face of the women in the background slightly out of focus..all kinds of possibilities there.

The girlfriend and bridal book is a good one too.

I am getting many comments on my entry this week saying they can''t find a description of the Phobia I used for my title. A quick search in Yahoo brings up web site matches #1. Phobia List. I hope this satifies everyone''s curiosity.
