yeah let's all bow down to europe...should we allow suicide bombers in the united states or anywhere else in the world because the PLA allows them in israel? should we allow the degradation of women as in some extreme muslim cultures? should we allow the stoning of adulterers as in some african countries?
just because a situation is "okay" or "allowed" in other countries doesn't mean that someone must live by those same standards. what you are talking about is personal anarchy imo

OK, after 3 days, and 5 pages to this post. Dont you all think its time to give it a rest. It was funny to some, offending to some, and just plain BORING to some. It's Christmas Eve no matter where you are in this big world. So let's get out there and spread some good cheer, and peace on Earth, and all that other stuff!!!!!!
I personally am leaving on a road trip to visit my family, and plan on taking TONS of travel pictures for THIS weeks challenge.

Hehe, well, now that it's just after 2am, I should be getting to bed... but it's kind of slim pickings for me this year. I'm spending Christmas with my boyfriend, who used up all his leave ealier in the year and can't get over to the other side of the country to see his family. However, on the weekend I'll be flying east to see my family for a couple of weeks. Since I'll be seeing them soon, they decided not to send me any presents! I have about 3 things under the tree to unwrap :(.
Ah well, I'll help Scott unwrap his presents, I guess :). Nighty night, and Merry Christmas!

Rather than a turn off 'nudes' option, I'd like a 'turn off this shot' option... If you see something while voting that you don't want to see, be it a penis or a puppy, you vote it down, click a check-box and never have to see it again... I know some will scream that this is censorship and that they have the right to make everyone look at whatever they want to, but I disagree... This is self-determination. You don't have to look at my puppy and I don't have to look at your penis... Everyone wins...
EDIT : Besides, who is going to decide what is a nude? I think it's clear that we have several definitions of it around here...

I think it's a good idea to leave the censorship up to the individual. Not that I'm saying the penis picture should have been allowed, but what differentiates the penis from the bum shots or nipples... why are some people offended by the female breast and not the male nipples?
By the same token, why should males be allowed to walk outside with no shirt on but females aren't allowed/supposed to? (in ontario, females are allowed to be topless although it's still frowned upon) |

We're expected to flock like sheep and buy buy buy! now I'm catholic and I say christmas is a bunch of phooey because people that celebrate aren't celebrating for the right reasons. (most of them) people that aren't religious are celebrating a religious holiday! That's like demanding you want a day off work for Canada day and you live in Mexico. silly. |

A very non-confrontational, friendly question for our atheist friends...
Why do you celebrate the birth of a carpenter's kid from 2000 years ago? Back in college when I was an atheist, it was just the day that feel between December 24th and December 26th :)
NOTE : I mean no offense to any "God-Challenged" members (or non-members) and am just curious...

Well, I've noticed a lot of comments are missing, but the one I find most offensive is this one, and it's still here. I will argue that religious beliefs be left out of this discussion. A) because calling somebody a "Deviant" is name calling, something which shows the person who posted this as a hypocrite, and B) because religious beliefs are personal, and not everybody is of the same religious nature.
Why is it that a few people's dislike of a picture have such a big influence on the people in charge to DQ it. The truth is that you cannot please everybody, when you run a site like this, and my advice, as bad or as good as you may think it is, is to set the ground rules firmly. If you don't want any genitalia, then remove all of it, not just one photo of a penis which some people complained about. You cannot just pick and choose, or maybe you can, but then the ethics and the idealism of the site is gone, and you will lose users.

I must respond to this. I was not calling him a name. His web site is deviantmind and you would have known this if you had bothered to really read my comment. I even stated that. If you had wanted to check out the facts, all you had to do was go to his profile; and you would have seen that for yourself. Were you blinded by unnecessary rage to where you couldn't even read. As far as religion goes, at least I am not ashamed of mine and live by it. AND I AM NOT SAYING your don't. But I do let people know where I stand. Why would someone want to stay on a website where it is obvious, even by the rules, that obsenity is not wanted, when they could go to a website that is geared toward it and they would get the votes and comments they want. That just doesn't make sense, and appears they are trying to force their likes into a place that doesn't want them. I don't go places I'm not wanted. I like to be around people who have the same similance of life style. I don't go hang around the bars because I don't drink, and I don't go to a lot of places because I have no interests in what they are interested in.

I actually was more concerned about the "nekkid" kids than the "Santa Penis".
A woman was recently arrested for having her film of her kids taking a bath developed at the local Wal-Mart. The sad thruth is that the lurid activities of a few mentals has brought the wrath of big brother down on all of the media.
My thought is that the "nekkid" kids were fine by me but it seems societal rules have diverged from my own way of thinking as time has gone on. Common sense has left and in it's place are dumbed down, sanitized and child proofed for my own protection rules put in place of common sense.
If you are going to run a public web site like this though its usually better to err on this side of the politically correct to avoid financial hardship or loss of access :-( |

i dont take offense to your question. it doesn't offend me that people celebrate christmas when they have no reason to... they've been brought up to think that christmas is a time for shopping and santa claus and all that stuff. There are benefits from having a holiday like christmas...
1. family get togethers and parties (in my family anyway)
2. eggnog and all the good food (minus the extra 5 pounds!)
3. holiday spirit
4. time off school!
and for those who celebrate it for what it is (a religious holiday) good for you :) |

My post was in response to an atheist that wished everyone a Merry Christmas, and discussed her plans to celebrate it. I certainly have no problem with her right to do so and it sounds like it will be a wonderful day for her, which makes me very happy. I was just curious about it... That's all... Sorry if I worded this in such a way as to offend you... I'll try to be more non-confrontational in the future...

I think your definition of pornography needs to be re-evaluated.
is a nude beach public pornography? Do you feel dirty when you get undressed to shower? Honestly, it's a penis. The person wasn't doing anything offensive with it. He dressed it up like a santa.. that's pretty funny stuff! Might not belong here but it's just a body part...
IMO if you're going to DQ something because it's nudity, you should DQ all other images displaying nudity as well. |

I am as befuddled by atheists as I am about the hard core religous fanatics.
My reasoning?
Folks who absolutely disbelieve something with no evidence are just as whacky as those who absolutely believe in something with no evidence.
I'm more of an agnostic myself but then again, I could be wrong :-D |
