Hi everyone, I was introduced to the welcome section today and though I would give it a try. I am in Orlando, FL. A film student and proud owner of a Canon 7D that I got around 2 months ago. I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it's starting to become like a facebook to me. I look forward to learning great tips and tricks. Forgot to mention that i'm just starting to get into photography. Anyways, I'm excited to joining and everyday I get a little more into this and my confidence as a photographer increase more and more as well.

Hahahaha well, I got the 7D mainly for the video capabilities it has, I like to make moving pictures and now am getting to just stills. And I will go ahead and edit that other post right away. Sorry bout that! Thanks

Welcome to DPC!
I think it's kinda funny your "starter" is $1.5k. My "starter" was an early '90s SLR that I bought around Christmas '04 for about $100 (+$130 50mm lens). I loved it. Next camera was this D40 on Black Friday '07 ($450 with the kit lens), which I hate.
Getting a mid-to-high-range dSLR was a good choice, you won't feel handicapped by the lack of features (and in the case of digital, crappy picture quality) of the cheaper ones. That's what I liked about my old 35mm SLR - feature-filled and compatible with a LOT of lenses. It's also what I hate about the D40 - crappy feature set and compatible with only the newest, fairly expensive lenses (and crappy picture quality, too!). Hopefully my next camera (planning on something between mine and yours, around $1000-1200) will be a bit better.
I see you're getting a 5.6 in a current challenge... Good job! My first entry here scored a 5.2, and my current average is not much higher.

Welcome to DPC! You seem to be off to a great start!
When I first started I was borrowing my camera from work to enter challenges. Once I learned a little I started doing a job here and there. A couple years after I joined I did a wedding with my sis and we made enough to get me my own D90.
Looks like your doing real well with your first challenge. Like George, I got a 5.2 and my average isn't much higher either. But it's not about the scores really.... Have fun!! |

Welcome to your worst addictive nightmare. It involves a convulsion to press the Update Button. But don't worry, we all survive it.... somehow.
You are going to be surprised how much there is to learn, but remember what you put in is what you will get out. Welcome to our great big family. |

I had to chuckle at how the replies to the hello started and the 7d. Almost like a grandfather explaining to his kids that back in his old day when he got a dollar..He bought a house, a car and put 16c in the bank..:) (Bill Cosby version - sorry)
Welcome to the club. My first camera was a Kodak 110 - flip open camera. Anybody remember that one?
Looking forward to see many posts and ribbon whishes to you |

One of my dad's regular sayings was "Back in the days of wooden ships and iron men..." |

What about the stories of walking 10 miles to school, uphill both ways, through the snow?

You say that now... Wait until you're bashing you head against the wall, asking yourself what the hell is wrong with all of the obviously insane voters and you're tracking every vote on an excel spreadsheet, like some sort of DPC addicted photo zombie.... I of course, have no idea what that's like at all, but I'm sure it would be horrible... ;) |
