Judi

I am glad to hear that you are on the mend. Please accept my best wishes to you and your family for a speedy recovery

Although we have never met, I feel I know you through your art.

You are definitely a fighter and I know you will make a full recovery soon.

I am sorry to hear that you won't be taking part in any challenges for a while. You have a unique view on the world and I enjoy seeing your images.

Be well

Andrew

I was absent from DPC for quite a while and I had no idea about Judi accident. I admire and respect Judi talent and I was worried when I started reading this thread. Judi - I'm so glad you are recovering. I wish you all the best, lots of health and plenty of blue ribbons. I'm sending you all my positive energy from Poland.

Well yesterday was a total waste of time and money. 6 hours driving and $190-00 to see the doctor for 15 minutes. I failed 90% of his tests and yet he couldn't give me any answers. He doesn't believe in Physio, Occupational Therapy, Fish Oil or any alternative therapy. I reckon I would have got more answers from a stranger on the street. I don't know how some doctors get their degree. All he could say was, if I am improving then keep doing what I am doing. Ya think? I could have told him that.

Sorry to hear, Judi. There will always be some days like this. Hopefully few and far between. Maybe you could have some "interview" type questions for any professionals before you pay to go see them.

All the best.

You're actually starting to sound like Judi again...little bit of fire in there! Oh yeah, keep doing what you're doing.

LMAO...hubby keeps reminding me of a question I asked him whilst I was in there. Apparently I said to Damion that I need to ask the doctor about my short term memory.. He replied...you already have....oh!

I am finding that when I get tired I lose memories of what happend that day and night and I can't seem to get them back. So I only remember snippets of previous days....I cant even remember what I ate for dinner. The same thing happens when I am doing something. I have no idea what I did a few seconds before. Some things I do remember...but others are just gone. I don't want to forget things about my kids.

So sorry that that huge long trip ended up as it did, Judi. But you have a loving family and a community of people who all strongly believe in you - and I don't know anyone else who would go and shoot a wedding so soon after such a traumatic injury! Keep your head up! ((HUGS)) Susan, Druli and Lily

Good reason to get a camera (even a p&s) back in your hands.

Well, I don't know much about how the brain works - but I tend to forget mundane details fairly quickly, like what I had for dinner the day before; I only tend to remember important things. And these things go into long-term memory. So you might forget what colour t-shirt your kids were wearing on a certain day, but you won't forget important events in their lives.

Most of the time I'm so distracted with other thoughts I barely remember what day of the week it is (seriously!)

Do you remember promising to give me your camera and lenses?

Me neither...hope things keep getting better Judi! The brain is very resilient.

LMAO...I don't think you are the first to suggest that. The funny things is....a friend did try to remind me that I had lent him a camera...and then said he was just joking. I later remembered that I had lent him a camera and he still has it. Talk about trying to confuse me.

Hey that's a good idea. Thanks.

There was a movie from a few years back called "Memento" where a guy lost his short term memory and he carried a polaroid camera around, snapped pics of people/places/things and wrote notes on them. Of course, he was using this method to track down who killed his wife, but you can do it to preserve memories of your kids/family. :)

Yeah, there have been a few people here trying to *remind* you of cameras and lenses you may have given/lent them in the past. They're just messing with you. And no fear, I shoot Nikon, so I won't try to swindle you :-)

Nah, I've also shot Canon, and though I have some lens envy, that's it. I'm a Nikon girl. Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread...

hey jude
the universities of the western world are growing new psychology departments, with a lot of work going into neuro-psychology and recently enabled FMRI techniques for mapping the location of various neurological activities. This I know because my mississ works (worked) in one, if my short term memory serves me well.

It's relatively uncharted territory, is what I'm saying, and you're in for a long haul through it. It's common enough to take couple of relapses down the way. Needless to say, we're counting on you to re-write the textbooks, even if there sort of aren't any. Sounds like the doc. could have done a better job of putting you at your - erm - ease, but quick and simple answers are not necessarily straight ones.

Anyway, prove me wrong and ride back there on your horse to punch him on the nose. BTW, that camera I lent you ...

Yes, people are just messing with you, Judi, because you're that kind o' gal.

Okay, "Aunt Alice" speaking: Afraid of losing memories? Sure, pics are an excellent idea; think about pecking out a daily, or even hourly, journal of what's going on that is important in your life and your family's life. Stick the photos in there if that's easy for you, and voila, you have an instant memory bank.

Now, I'm speaking from experience, and I know it works. So worry no more. Just - well - write it down!

Okay, "/Aunt Alice".

As one who admires you and your work, keep on plugging away because you have the resilience that will make recovery a certainty. Just take it a little easy, will ya?

Alice
:))

I just had Occupational Therapy. And I got more information out of that session then I did from that dweeb yesterday. She is starting a programme for me to regain more memory and use of my hand. She just rang me and said she contacted Main Roads and found out that I need to get medical clearance from my doctor before I am allowed to drive. Oops. So I am seeing my doctor shortly to get that arranged. I am pretty good in the car, it is an Automatic, so no gear changes, with power steering. Whilst I have to use my left hand to turn the car on and off and I use my arm to use the indicator, I do pick the routes and times to drive and go around corners slower than normal. As my strength returns that will change. I can slowly shut the door with my bad hand.

It must be such a relief to have a professional OT taking an active role in your recovery. :)
