But seriously, big congrats on the progress you're making. It goes to show how much we take basic things like being able to speak for granted.

Actually, and I hope this comes out the right way, one of the great things about Judi is that despite sometimes doing pretty poorly, both in score and ranking, she just keeps going. There are others around here who normally score highly but act quite indignant when their score doesn't match their expectations.

Wow, I just found this thread - it's terrifying what can happen in a split second, and reminds me that life is precious and fragile.

I'll be praying for you - do get well soon, Judi!!

Last night my voice started happening. It only came out when I wasn't trying. If I tried to use it, it wouldn't happen. But this morning...I have my voice back. It is deep and husky and my throat hurts...but I have a voice. I am so happy. So I decided to try and drive the kids to school. Damion came with me. I did it, but couldnt use my right hand...so I am not allowed to drive for a few days until I can get more strength in my hand...but I had to prove tomyself that I can remember how to drive. A week ago I couldn't. But....I can talk.......yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I just got back in.. SO GLAD TO HEAR THIS JUDI!!!

You're an amazingly resilient person... I'm super impressed!

Keep rockin it Judi! You'll be back to hogging ribbons soon enough I'm sure! (really, sooo happy for you right now! wow!)

Is that mean your husband's break is over. Now you are going to "tel" him how to pose again, instead of drawing stick-figures LOL

I just saw this thread for the first time...

Best Wishes, Judi--you should be able to tell what an important member of this community you are, how much you matter to us all. Thanks for keeping us posted, glad to hear about positive trends. Might be able to get more than a few volunteers to go and beat the ___ outta that fence :-)

Hey Judi, great news, sooooooooo happy for you and your family, just take it easy and dont rush it.

I keep hearing this from my family and work mates,so I know it get boring hearing the same thing over and over, again and again and again, but you must rest as Kelli, your physio and everyone else has said ;-)

I started falling over and going in trances about 3 or so months ago with really bad head pain, but carried on working and didn't tell anyone how bad it really was. Then it happened in front of the client, they were of course very understanding, but jeeez,it wasn't very profressional of me, but I didn't want to let anyone down by not doing the workshop, however, I should have gone to see the doctor and gone on leave till it was sorted. My family and bosses have been great and very supportive, I have been on leave now for 7 weeks, had all the tests and see my consultant next Tuesday. Nothing as serious as what happened to you for sure, think it maybe epilepsy, but with the drugs he gave me and the rest, things have got slightly better over the last few weeks, so rest and 'switching off' does help for certain ;-)

Dear Judi, my best wishes for your recovery !
The human body and mind are stronger than sometimes we imagine. Take your time and have faith, a step and then another, patiently. And I hope that soon you'll be fully recovered.
I still remember when doctors told me that I would never walk again... Now I smile because they were wrong. My life is painful but also full of joy and love.

Thanks everyone. I feel about 80% normal now. Just some physical and memory issues still to work on. I was chatting to a friend tonight about how I was treated by people around me during the worst of it. Most were very good. But some treated me as a retard. What they didn't realise that whilst I couldnt talk and my body was doing funny things that made me look retarded....I couldnt seem to get across to them that I was clear in my head and could see and understand everything they said about me, in front of me. And I thought...if that is how they behave around me, how do they treat people in similiar conditions that never regain their normal physical abilities...and how many people get overlooked caus their bodies are broken. They get forgotten about even though their minds are still clear. It made me sad to think how many people are wrongly mistreated. But through it I learnt who my true friends are and who are the ones that aren't worth knowing because of their ignorance of looking past the physical abilities.

The people who treated you as a retard have mental limitations & fears, invisible to the casual glance but in their own way just as crippling as an injury to the body. You are lucky to have so many friends, including the imperfect ones. Everyone you know is helping you recover, each in their own way. It is very good news indeed that you're up to 80% now & improving by the moment. Head up, tail up!

Good to hear you are up and about just don't push yourself too hard please. I pushed myself to soon after feeling wonderful a few weeks after a major surgery - my body told me painfully to hold off.

Just an FYI referring to people as a retard is considered very derogatory in much of the world. As bad as you felt to be treated that way, many people are treated that way on a daily basis. If everyone could feel how that felt the world might be more understanding to the mentally handicapped and physically handicapped people of the world. As a father of someone who is physically handicapped the stares and treatment I see towards my son at times is disgusting.

It's also now illegal in the state of NJ.

To be fair, it's not illegal, it's just stricken from the state's official lexicon.

;D Yeah, but I guess the original quote wasn't in the article I linked to... Gov. Chris Christie today made it illegal for state laws or rules to identify anyone with a developmental or intellectual disability as "mentally retarded" by signing legislation sought by people who have felt belittled by the term.

Judi, what astounding progress, and in such a short period of time...but do be careful to not overdo it too...

Wow! Sounds like great news Judi. I've been gone for a bit so did not know things were progressing as fast and as well as they seem to be. Yahoo for you and your family!
