Judi, I'm sitting here just ... stunned. So many thoughts colliding, I'm not sure what to say. Let's see if I can put them in some reasonable order.
I hope you get well soon. Of course. But that's just obvious, right? I can't imagine anything better to say beyond what others have said so well. But I'll say that Bear_Music's tone seems most like my own.
You were one of the first people to welcome me to DPC back in 2006. At the time, you, Fotomann_Forever, Idnic, and others would have crazy, funny exchanges. I wasn't sure how to join in, but you all treated me as if you'd known me forever. I'm sure your husband and others have told you, but you're one very irreverent, sassy, sexy, smart, helpful, confident, friendly woman. And I can see the fighter in you even in the responses here in this thread.
One of the things you did here on DPC was start a series of competitions to have the lowest unintended score in a challenge. It was your way of saying "oops, I missed the mark, who wants to race me to the bottom?" You helped me laugh at myself and not take DPC scores so seriously. Here's one of the contest threads to help you see how wonderful you are.
Here's an image you created in 2006 when a bunch of us did 30 days of self-portraits. Others have highlighted many of your self-portraits, but I'm hoping this one reminds you of what you found precious then and I'm sure still do. As the parent of two girls, it really connected with me then and it still does.
I've heard of many cases where people can write but not yet speak (different parts of the brain), so I wonder whether you can write as well as you type?
I'm thinking good thoughts for you, and I'm encouraged every time you share with us. I know this must be incredibly frustrating for you, but just seeing you communicating means good things are happening.
All my best,
Jeffrey

Ok, Judi -- it's been a couple of days since we've heard anything. Hopefully that means that you've found something much more fascinating than us and are having a great time. But we still need our updates! :)

I have just got back from doctors. He is not happy and wants me to see a neurologist urgently. this means i will probably be admitted to hospital a few hundred kms away to see one. Doctor understands why I cant speak, something about damamged one side of brain that affects speech. He is also hurrying up speech pathologists.

Well, maybe this is a good thing. Perhaps more can be done to help things along. Listen to your doctors, have faith, and keep us updated -- we're all pulling for you!

They have contacted 3 neurologoists. One can see me July next year, another can see me March next year, and the other one will prioritise when they have documents. we need more specialists in the country.

This is dreadful, Judi. It makes me feel ashamed to be Australian. We are led to believe that we will all be treated in an emergency, but their idea of an emergency is ridiculous. I hope that the one doctor who will prioritise you can see you very, very soon. In the meantime hang in there and do the best you can. You are never far from our thoughts and we are all wishing you well. |

Wow, that was an emotional roller coaster ride, only this time it went down first then back up. I was bummed about the delay, but now things are looking good again.
I can't imagine not being able to talk.Keep working on sounding out letters and words. I feel that when you reach a certain point in your recovery that your speech will return quickly back to normal or near normal.
That must be terribly frustrating esp for someone as social as you seem to be. Try to think of it not so much about being speech impaired, but for now you are "listening enhanced" : )
We're here for you and are sending good vibes your way.

Judi, I wandered back into dpc recently after a few months' absence, and just now found your thread. So sorry to hear of the accident, but mainly want to wish you well with your recovery. I'll keep you in my prayers and stay on the sideline cheering you on. I've read all of the posts so I am up-to-date with your progress. My favorite photo is this one, although there are many, many that I really like:
I see this as a photo of you rising up from your present challenge. Keep rising...
Aloha,
Jeff. |

Judi, so glad you're seeing a neurologist this Wednesday!
I was out running early this morning and passed a field with some beautiful horses in it. It immediately made me think of you. Again. Hang in there, girl and let us know how you get on.

You are all so wonderful. I had to do a wedding yesterday, so by the end I was able to whisper quite well. Everyone was able to understand what I wanted them to do and the bride cried when she saw one of the photos on the camera....she was over the moon with them. I was in a lot of pain by the end but I did it. I felt good for it but am suffering today. Fortunately the next few weeks are fairly slow so I can take some time out to do rehab and get better. I saw my old photo partner last night and remembered our times together. Last week I saw him and could only remember going on long drives with him. So that made me feel good to remember. My short term memory is still hit and miss but I am working on it. I did a memory game the other day and it said my brain age was 80.

Goes with your body age of 22; the average between them is about your calendar age :-)

So? that's pretty good these days. Us senior citizens have learned that we regenerate brain cells and by the time we get to 100, we'll probably have brains that will "Kick Butt"
And congratulations, Judi, for working that wedding. With an attitude like that you can keep "Kicking Butt" well before you hit 100!

If I could make one wish it would be to not be so hard on yourself, your body is amazing but needs time to heal. Hope the neuro can give you some help with the aphasia. The white mares and me send love. |
