So I bought the Wireless router (It as no support for English Windows but it connected without issue). Then, when I unplugged the router from the iMac (I used the iMac to do the initial setup) and used the Airport (The wireless device, can't remember what it's called) to scan for wireless connections. It came up with NOTHING. Nothing even in the building. My PC can find a bunch of connects, but the iMac, nothing. So of course it can't find the connection we have setup...
I called the Router company for support and they said, even though this is their latest router, it may NOT support the latest Mac OS...Now I've gotta deal with Apple and it's getting late. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice? |

God help you, dealing with Apple is a complete nightmare.
Don't get me wrong, I love their products, but each time I've had dealings with their support it makes me seriously consider whether I want to have anything to do with them any more!
I'm not really understanding what you're asking here, can your PC find the connection on the new router? If you're trying to configure the router, does it have a web interface you can set it up on, usually it's the default gateway of your network (on a PC go to a command prompt and type 'ipconfig'), you'll get something like 'Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1', whatever yours is put that in your browser and see if you get a login page.
If it's your Mac you're asking about, make sure your airport is turned on, if it is, turn it off and on again. Restart the iMac, go to the airport icon in your menu bar, make sure it's saying "Airport: on" then select "Join Other Network" and then "Show Networks" to see if you can see your or any wireless network.

are you broadcasting the SSID? your wireless card wont see the router if its not broadcasting. once you connect and save the connection, then you can disable it.
the OS really doesn't matter when connecting to a wireless router. |

Is it Wireless 802.11A, B, G, N, or all of the above? Maybe you have it set to G or N only, and the Mac is B only? Just something to check!

Interesting sentiment given that Apple's had the best tech support in the industry for years. Every poll or test- Consumer Reports, NY Times, whatever- rates Apple's support way ahead of any other computer company.

Didn't mean to start an Apple / PC war, I only speak from personal experience. I had an iMac die (black screen dead), took me over three months and had to get the consumer affairs folk involved to get it fixed properly!
I still buy their stuff though, I just live in the hope that none of it ever breaks :) |

I'm in Japan so it's made for Japanese computers (They always say they don't recommended buying any products if you are running English OS but I haven't had issues for any of the 10+ years I've been here).
I bought a Buffalo Nfinitiâ„¢ Wireless-N High Power Router. On my Windows 7 PC all the software comes up with jumbled icons as text since it's not reading the Japanese properly. I called Apple support with 15 minutes left on the clock. They said they would transfer me to an English rep, had me on hold for the last 5 minutes and then said "I'm sorry, it's 7pm and our hours of service end at 7pm, can you call us tomorrow."....THAT was my Apple service...my wife works in customer service for one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Japan and that, she says, would have been a big NO NO and any other person would have filed a claim. I didn't...
ANYWAYS...I started messing around in the Network settings in the iMac (A first time for everything) and saw that the Airport utility was not turned on by the ADSL line was (Or something like that) so I turned one off and the other on and it found the router and now I'm wireless. That was the longest I've ever spent in front of a Mac and not knowing where everything is makes it super hard. Even with all the jumbled icons for letters on the Windows 7 PC I was able to make good guesses as to where what was and how to get it connected.
Problem solved: Until my wife does something to the Mac and I'm sitting in front of it again. |

Wow.
Glad you got it sorted out. But maybe next time provide ALL the info. I am pretty sure you had a bunch of people (including me) scratching their heads based on an incomplete post in the first place.

| Good luck. I've had an imac for 2 years, had trouble from the beginning with wireless. Bought an airport to replace my wireless netgear, just because i thought it would be more compatible. Nope. Nothing but problems, and no worthwhile assistance from Apple. They push out a fix every now and again, but the stupid thing still loses signal constantly. While a PC laptop right next to it works happily away. Heck, even the iTouch stays connected more reliably. :( |

Wow. This is 100% opposite of my experience: Got an airport, took longer to unpack and plug it in than it did to set up a connection. Five computers (mix of macs and windows laptops), four different iphones easily connected, reliably connected. Previous Linksys Wireless G unit was a nightmare--hard to set up, hard to manage, and unreliable.
the only attention my airport ever needs is the occasional update apple sends out--but I just click install and nothing else. Works like a champ.

| Interesting discussion on iMac's connection issues with wireless routers. I have not had a problem with mine in 4 years and have been on many different networks and router brands and you name it. Sometimes we run in to settings that get mixed up and life comes to a standstill on the internet side. Happy to hear you have resolved the issue. |

hmmm. I have 3 imacs playing nice and easy with my airport. What specifically is happening with your imac (and it is latest os and such)? |

My airport extreme plays very nicely with my macbook pro. It does not play nicely with my Windows 7 machine.
I turn my computers off when I'm not using them and every time I start up the PC, the airport utility needs to be recycled on the PC to get access to the hard drives attached to the extreme. No problem with the macbook pro.
