It's being returned as we speak.. once you got it indoor's, you can actually smell it burning.. I'm just glad it was only my back up camera.. I couldn't get the flash to even shut off.. So, regardless of what mode I was shooting in, it was firing every time I hit the shutter, but staying closed.. And, it made a horrible clicking sound... So, it sat in the van, while the D80 kept on keeping on... 645 shots to go through now.. fun fun fun..

WOW.. what a sweatheart you are !!! I've been shooting Nikon for about 3 years now, so yep, can't say I know everything.. But, I do know how to use my gear.. I can't help it if it broke..

Spork, it's folks like you that remind why I leave DPC for a while, then think maybe it can just be a normal friendly, no venom, no need to tear you down to make myself feel bigger place, and just when I forget, there you are.. appreciate it buddy, I was just about to pay for the full membership again, but I can get the rudeness for free !!!! I'll stick to what I've got..

This is the "Even though I posted for help using my brand new camera 15 minutes before the wedding I was shooting, I do know how to use my gear." post. If you can't see the humor in that, you're being way too defensive about something.

No it wasn't.. I shot about 250 snaps around the house, did some portraits at the office for fun to try it out and it was working just fine this morning before I left.. It literally got stuck and I couldn't use my SB-600 because the flash was still going off and you could see it illuminate slightly.. Which was fine, but the horrible grinding clicking noise it was making was not ok.. Like I said, you could actually smell it burning once I got it home.. So, neither here nor there.. It was foolish of me to buy new gear and take it to my next gig with out spending more time with it.. I just thought it may be a commone issue other's have encountered, that's the only reason I asked.. And, I was posting from my phone and didn't feel the need to go into great detail.. You either could help, or you couldn't..

OK, sorry.

It sounded like you literally just bought it, charged the batteries and had never used it before and were trying to get the popup flash to popup so you could do your job. Obviously that wasn't the case.

Long story short: The wedding is a done deal. It was equipment failure, not pilot error. You had a backup cam and flash. You got good photos anyway. Everything's wonderful! What was all the fuss about?
Did the newly weds like the photos?

Out of curiosity... did you try attaching the SB600? I just ask because it seems to me that it may have disabled the popup flash from firing. Granted, someting was clearly faulty there... but I would've been curious if when it fires through the hotshoe's wiring it was any differet...

Nope, I hadn't attached it yet.. The thing is, this camera wasn't for shooting the bride & groom.. This was my "candid" camera if you will.. My partner helping me is super talented, but I'm not going to have her shoot anything major.. That's why I was there.. She was just going to cruise around with it & get the guests and random stuff like that.. I could have just used the sb-600, but the pop up was slightly opened, so you could see that it was firing.. It clearly looked like it was malfunctioning and I'd rather NOT USE an extra cam then use one that's screwing up.. Plus, the sound it was making was horrific.. It's returned now..

I've just started to go through the pic's.. I'm loving them.. for being outside, I have very little lost image area due to blow-outs, which is my biggest fear !!! Of course, I got totally sunburned and fried... Howcome I didn't think of SUNBLOCK !!! lol.. My next outdoor is in 2 weeks, so I have plenty of time to master the D3000 and remember to apply sunblock !!!
