In between storms, my brother drove us over the spine of the island to the National Park side. Gawd, what a roller coaster! And they drive on the left side of the road here, even though the cars all have steering wheels on the left, so any sharp, left turn is a complete thrill...
Anyway, the sun came out between squalls, and here's Caneel Bay, on St. John. Soon enough, the 4 of us will be seeing all these views from the water :-)

Oh man, I can't wait to get there tomorrow. Your brother's villa looks great! What a view!
My friend that I was telling you about has a house just on the other side of the national park with a views across the bay back towards the rest of St. John on one side and a view of Tortola across Drake's Channel on the other side. You pictures remind me of my stays there. |

Regarding acrobatic whales, one can only hope to observe them from a slight distance :-) Regarding weather, the area's trying to shed a tropical depression and it's been distinctly iffy. Some real pretty clouds came whistling past the Villa a couple hours ago, though; it's back to stormy now.

TD3 is 700 miles WNW of us now, shooting the gap between Cuba and the Bahamas and heading for landfall on the tip of Florida as it passes into the gulf. We are way, way offshore of that. The weather we're feeling now is the remnants of TD3. As far as I know, not other big systems are in line for the next week or 10 days, but I'm checking now.

OK, now we're on the boat, at the charter docks at Road Town, on Tortola. We officially start cruising at noon tomorrow, but we've loaded our stuff on the boat. So here's, clockwise from left, Shortstuff, PennyClick, and Yakatme in the salon of the Hunter 420 "Ciao", relaxing before the adventure begins. The evening was kicked off with Painkillers and sweet potato fries at the local Pub at the head of the dock :-)

One more for the road: this is the pilot boat at Road Town, Tortola, BVI...
We'll slip our moorings in a couple hours, then I doubt we'll be able to connect for the next week or so, but Yakatme is less pessimistic, so...

We're at Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda right now, moored offshore in the lee of some hills. Oddly enough, there's a stray connection floating around so before it disappears, hi to all :-)

You want color? Here's color, from Jost van Dyke :-)
Not so colorful, but a heck of a flower, I'm sure someone knows what it is but I do not:

oh well!
a place where I can hate Robert, publicly, as your suggestion! ;-)
you're so pleasant, i'd like to know you (like many others on DPC), but I think that will be difficult (do you not plan an Italy trip?) |
