I've been asked a few times while out and about if i have a business card, so i thought i'd make one up for photography stuff. I'd really appreciate suggestions and ideas on what i have so far - please be brutally honest.
I have no idea what i want to do for the back of the card. I was thinking some slices of sample photos but i'm thinking in a few months i probably wont like those photos any more! What do you do on the back of your business card?
Here's what i have for the front so far:
The web address and email that's there won't be used. Thats just a domain i have for my email address to be my name hehe. |

Hey Mark. I really love the design of the card. I love that you have one image on the front. It looks really professional. The only thing that bothers me is the alignment of the text. (Nitpicky I know).
As far as the back, I don't know that you really need anything there, but one idea that I have seen is putting a "featured" business on the back. For example, if you have a good friend that has an up and coming business, put the name of their business on the back and maybe their phone number or website. You could have them help with the cost incurred for the cards or have them do the same for you on their cards.

Please tell me more about your thoughts on text alignment :) Nitpicky is great, it's the only way you can get a better result.
Please note the inner grey border shown is the business card outline. Outside of that is bleed. Everything must be at least the distance from the edge to the grey border so as not to get lopped of under misalignment |

I don't care for the san serrif font you have chosen for you body text. The all important web address of rris is difficult to read at this larger than life size and without serrifs the repeating r is easy to muddle with the i. Even with perfect printing, its going to be a challenge to read at life size, even with perfect vision.
Do you ever get a phone message where a caller speaks clearly and slowly until they get to their contact information, then because they know their phone number so well, they go into warp speed? To decipher the number you have to listen to the message several times to get the only information the is really new and essential. Typographically that is what you have done here.
The leading is too tight, the font is too stylized. Be creative with the big text, with the small stuff that you need them to know, make it clear enough that it can be read at least as well as a newspaper. Times Roman is not popular because it looks cool, but because it is highly legible. |

Thanks Brendan, i'm going to actually get another domain for the URL and email because i know rris domain is not exactly memorable or relevant, but does make a great personalised email address for me.
I'll look at other fonts for the contact info, i admit i wasn't sure about what font to use with that, i must have tried at least 15.
I still do need to print it at 100% on my xerox laser to see how it will come out of the printers. I'd print them myself but i have troubles getting card that weight here in Perth. |
