I just heard on the news that President Obama will not be going to Arlington National Cemetary on Memorial Day. This has been a tradition since Memorial Day has existed. The president always praises the troops on that day. Instead of going to the cemetary he will be going to chicago, where he is hosting a party that will be honoring Paul McCartny. I like the Beatles, and I like Paul McCartny but on June 2 is not the time. Throw Paul a party on the 3rd or the 4th. Don't disgrace the troops. He is absolutely an embarrassment to this country.
Also while I am on my soapbox about the president, now 63% of people want the healthcare reform repealed. I think that the reason Obama is virtually ignoring the gulf spill, not honoring our troops, and really just being a jerk is he knows there is no way of being reelected. I feel sorry for our next president. He has got a huge mess to clean up.
Edited to add:
Another thing that really ticks me off about this administration. The riddicule from this admin dealing with the immigration law that Arizona passed. The fed govmt has failed to do anything dealing with the illegal immigration, so arizona has done something about it. If these immigrants would come over here legally, learn English, and become citizens I have no problem with it. At one time every American, except native americans, were immigrants. I don't see why there is a prob with a law that would help to prevent these illigal immigrants.

The center of the world is not Washington, D.C., nor is it NYC. This President is to preside over a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., on Monday. The day is, after all, a time of remembrance for those military men and women who have died serving our nation. |

Arlington is the ultimate burying place for many soldiers that have died in wars both foreign and domestic.

My advice is to stop watching Fox News.
And GW Bush's next visit to a fallen soldier's memorial service from Iraq or Afghanistan will be his first. Plus the absolutely disgraceful state of veterans affairs that Bush/Chaney left us should be grounds for impeachment.
I'm also sure more the 63% of people wanted the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans repealed, too.
He most likely will be re-elected and he's busy cleaning up the mess from the last administration, and what a huge mess it is.

GW helped to clean up the VA...I had absolutely no prob getting money owed and medical treatment at the VA. Not long after Obama got elected that all went to hell. I have tried to get the VA to start paying for my school. I now have a senator on the case. I have had to drop out and now owe my school a small fortune. During the GW admin I never had these problems. Also I have been trying to get an appointment to go to the VA med center. Under Bush I always had an appointment within the week. Now not soo much. I have been waiting 3 weeks, and yes I call them daily.

About owing the school - I am assuming it is because your loans did not come thru? Check with your school's Financial Aid office and see if they have a Veteran's Representative. We have one for our county that works closely with the school. Start talking to the Financial Aid office and make sure they clearly understand your veteran status. Our school does a good job of accomodating the vets and I hope yours does too. PM me the school info and more details and I'll see if I can find out what you need to do. |

I have been in constant communication with the school's VA rep. They are working with the VA and the school even worked with me. They allowed me to go to school for around 6 months with no payment and they even paid for my books for me. So the school has been very supportive. I have talked to dozens of people at the VA and every one of them say yes we owe you money but then there is no check. That is why I have contacted my congressman. He is a big supporter of the military and actually served in Vietnam.

Oh yeah, the VA under Mr. Bush was all peaches and cream ... at least until The Washington Post took a look at things.
Panel: Army Hospital Woes Go Beyond Walter Reed
Originally posted by cited story: Conditions at the U.S. Army's Walter Reed Medical Center are symptomatic of wider problems at veterans' hospitals across the country. |
Walter Reed Hospital's Top Officer Relieved of Duty
Originally posted by cited story: Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, the officer in charge of the beleaguered Walter Reed Army Medical Center, has been relieved of his command, the Army said today. The news came one day before an independent military review panel was to investigate conditions at the hospital, which has been the subject of severe criticism for its treatment and facilities.
Reports of squalid conditions at one of Walter Reed's outpatient living facilities first appeared in The Washington Post two weeks ago. |
Bush Tours Walter Reed Hospital, and Apologizes
Originally posted by cited story: President Bush went to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center inWashington D.C., Friday, his first trip there since revelations six weeks ago about deplorable living conditions for wounded soldiers in the facility's outpatient housing.
Substandard conditions and policies at the hospital brought resignations after they were exposed in news reports. The president used the occasion to apologize to veterans for what they endured during their recovery, and to vow that the problems will be fixed. |

If its any consolation to any of you, outside of the US President Obama is incredibly respected and a great advert for modern America. Obviously I am not fully aware of internal politics, but on the world stage he certainly is held in very high regard.
Now GWB on the other hand was a laughing stock (and also seemed, potentially, very very dangerous).
My opinion only of course. |

I think I'd rather have a leader that isn't afraid to honor troops in his own way, in a place that might have more significance for him (or her), than someone that is so tied into tradition they wouldn't possibly do anything to buck it. Tradition is well and good, but not if it becomes something that impedes free-thinking and free-choice.
In the end, does it REALLY matter where a leader honors people? Or is it more a symbol of your own personal hang-ups?

You are a brave man Cowboy. These Libs on this site will defend Dear Leader at any cost.
I agree with you on your Memorial Day/Paul McCartny comments.
In addition to your comments I'd like to add:
Did you see the Dog and Pony show he put on down here for the oil spill? He went to a clean beach and walked around the sand. The beach had 100s of government crews walking around "cleaning up"....they haven't been seen since !
The beach was "Grand Isle". It was barely touched by any oil. The oil that worries us is starting to appear in the marsh. He didn't make it down there. In addition, from the time he landed until the time he left was about 3 hours. He spent 1/2 day with sports teams at the White House.
I expect to be pounded with BP...Bush...and Foxnews comments but it's already in Rant sooooo...........

I remember as a kid-- all that was available was ABC, CBS and NBC. What you saw on the nightly news was IT ! No other opinion, no internet, no national talk radio. Thank god for Fox and the radio shows that voice other opinions. I just wish there were more left wing radio shows. I like to listen to Amerileft on XM. It is pretty funny !
I also love how Bush is brought up as the reason for Obama's failures.
I like the way AG Eric Holder dropped the investigation of the two BLACK PANTHERS with Billy Clubs at a polling place....dispite them being on video weilding the clubs.
I like the way the fans of Dear Leader also blame Bush for Obama's spending spree.
I like the way our Deputy Sec. of State rips the AZ law as outragous...while he is talking to Communist Chinese!
I like the way Dear Leader used Rhom to use Clinton to bribe Sestak out of the Senate race. (this one is going to stay alive only because of Fox/Rush/Hannaty/Lavin) - I wonder how TRANSPARENT Dear Leader is going to be on this story.
All this and more and Dear Leader has only been in office a year and a half.

since you obvioulsy didn't click on the link that Judith provided, here's a snip.
In order to "Trample on Tradition" as the chyron suggests, or "break tradition" as Kilmeade stated, Obama's decision to attend a ceremony in Chicago instead of Arlington would have to be unprecedented. It isn't.
Let's recap once again, because Fox and co. are having some difficulty with this: In 1983 President Reagan attended a "summit meeting in Williamsburg, Va." on Memorial Day while Deputy Secretary of Defense W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery. In 1992, George H.W. Bush attended a ceremony in Kennebunkport, Maine (where he also reportedly played a round of golf) while VP Dan Quayle laid the wreath at Arlington. In 2002, President George W. Bush commemorated Memorial Day at Normandy. Shockingly, Fox News wasn't exactly incensed over that one.
So, you got a problem with Reagan, Bush and Bush, too? |

According to a report in the New Orleans Times Picayune the hundreds of people in the clean-up crew were not government crews, they were sent by BP.
President Obama held a 2 hour meeting in Grand Isle, LA with LA senators, representative's and the governors of Louisiana, Alabama and Florida, also present were other mayors and parish presidents from Louisiana. President Obama was shown videos and photos of the oil in the marsh. I've not heard anything but good reports come from this meeting. Even one of the president's harshest critics expressed admiration for the way he listened and responded to their concerns.
I and many others here in New Orleans believe that President Obama is sincere and truly concerned about the catastrophe. The President doesn't have to be here all day or every week to monitor the situation, not anymore than your doctor would have to sleep in your room when you're in the hospital.

When the speaker is an American, especially in a widely general context such as this, the attribute socialist is often used for derogatory purposes, because of the special stigmata attached to the term in the US. I therefore think it appropriate to provide a minim of context for those more interested in truth than in defamation.
