I am just wondering how many of us still shoot using an old SLR camera from time to time?

I am interested to know as I number of people have recently mentioned to me that shooting a roll of film every now and then helps improve you whole approach to photography. Have you found that to be the case?

Lets try to avoid the whole film vs Digital as they are just different formats for photography.

I've recently started playing with film again, in large part due to some friendly arm-twisting by bvy.

I shoot film, not with a SLR, but with my Holga. I love it and am now going to get an old film SLR to play with. The more manual the better.

I find it has taught me to slow down a bit. Because there is no immediate review of what you shot, you spend a little bit more time composing the shot before you press the shutter. Translate that approach to digital and I like that I prepare the shot more than I did earlier.

I like using film a lot.

I love the fact that my EOS 100 works with all my new SLR lenses.. Makes me generally happy :)

Haven't touched it since I went digital. Oh wait, I had it for the photographer portrait challenge because my son was taking a picture of me using my camera, so I had to resurrect the film camera. :)

I agree though, it would probably be beneficial for getting me to slow down. I'm taking way too many shots these days; I need to slow down and think.

It would be interesting to try brandenburg's idea of one, and only one, shot per day. (I think that was brandenberg...)

I have a disposible camera hidden away in some draw that I take a photo now and a again with when I find it, interesting to see what I get out of it when the film finaly finishes, forgotten everything that ive taken a photo of on it.

I shot for years with Canon manual SLR's. I have a couple of Nikon bodies that can use my current lenses, as well as a Canon AE1 Program body and a couple of lenses. I rarely shoot film, but I do enjoy it when I have time and inclination. I used to process and print my B&W. It was good to process the B&W in order to learn more about how a camera works, and about composition and printing.
Agfa had a C41 slide film, and a positive, two step developing, color printing paper that allowed me to print color from the slides. At that time it was great to be able to make color prints from slides without having to copy the slide to neg, develop the neg, then print from it. I don't know if they still make that stuff. I haven't set up my darkroom equipment since about 25 years ago.

I shot film for a long long time, but am done with it now -- though I can't seem to bring myself to discard my old 35mm bodies so who knows.

I still have a small collection of darkroom gear, including a few stainless developing tanks and 35mm spools, a film washers, some 8x10 trays etc. I would gladly give it all away to a DPC-er who is serious about trying their hand at film, just for the cost of shipping it to you. Not everything you need, but a good start on a B+W developing kit.

I have been in and out of photography for several decades. About 6 years ago I was still shooting film, mostly printing on Ilfochrome. About 4 years ago I moved and haven't setup a new darkroom. I just this week got around to modifying my OM-1 to use silver batteries. I figure I might put a roll or two of E200 through it for fun. Can still process film easy enough without the darkroom. I really enjoyed the whole process and miss the darkroom work, but supplies are getting harder to find. All my favorite films are no longer available in bulk ( liked being able to roll a short roll when needed ), can't even find chemicals for Ilfochrome. Flim cameras - OM-1, X700, EOS-3, Yashica Mat 124G, Digital 20D, 7D, plus various point and shoot.
