Just stopping by to say G'day to everyone.

I've just joined dpchallenge because I bought the Fuji Finepix S7000 only last Saturday. I'm only half way through the manual so far.

If there are any other owners out there I'd love to hear your hints and tips on using the camera. I have also entered my first photo but don't expect to much from it I had the camera for less than 24 hours when I took the pic.

Cheers ... Bob
edit: BTW this n00bie miss read the challenge stuff and went out and took photos for the "Choices" challenge but it was only open for voting! *Shakes head* Good pic too...

G'day Bob,

One valuable hint for you: check out the fuji forum on dpreview.com. Here's the direct link:
//forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1012
It's the perfect place to ask questions, but search the archives for older posts before you do. Almost everything that a new owner needs and wants to know has been asked and answered in the past.

Have fun with the camera and good luck on the challenges here :-)

Cheers,
Bruce

Welcome Bob and congrats on your purchase.

One thing that you may want to explore is shooting with your camera in manual mode ("M" on the dial). This lets get shutter speeds as fast as 1/10000 sec and as slow as 30 sec. These shutter speeds are not available in the other modes.

Happy shooting. You're going to love that camera.

Thanks for the welcome guys I really look forward to learning alot here and getting the best out of my camera. Photography is a bit like playing golf to me I love it but I'm not very good at it lol.

Thanks Bruce for the link to the Fugi Forum I'm off to explore it now!

Hope it's very dark for using the 30 sec and even bulb setting. The S7000 only goes down to f8.0 while the S602Z went to F11.0. I just got mine and hav been working with it some. But I'm away for 2 weeks and not taking it with me. I'll post more when I get back.

But you have manual settings for BW that the S602Z did not have which is a definite plus for me. I just got mine and have been working with it some. G-day mate, I've been enjoying everyones pics,so I also just joined DP

I'm also in the boat with you Bob as I just got the S7000, and am trying to get the right accessories to go with it. I'm not really good at photography but it's fun to learn. I used to have a 35mm and black and white darkroom ( Never got into color),but that was years ago. This digital thing is a lot different, but if you take photos on M (like someone else suggested)you can take pics at diffent settings and learn from there.NO FILM TO WASTE!!! WooHoo!!Immeadiate DELETE BAD PICS!!

Good luck and have FUN!!

Hey Keymahh, Well mine is almost a week old now. I've taken heaps of pic's and Video watched them on the TV and computer, played with settings, downloaded new software, getting quotes for accessories. fiddled with my printer as it printed too dark AND I can't stop checking to see how the vote is going on my first entry here.

Life a bitch but someones got to do it! I hope we can learn together!
PS: Kinda stuck on Extraordinary?
