That's Sony's 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens. We haven't had a macro since we sold the Canon gear, so it's sort of a homecoming for us :-) |

Very nice indeed!
Sony have been knocking it out the park for a while now. I recently got the 35mm f1.4 FE and it's sublime. Their new 85mm 1.4 GM looks astounding and is on my to-get list for later in the year. That and the recent Zeiss 21mm f2.8 Loxia. Once i've got those I think i'm pretty much done with new lenses! (yea, as ifâ€Â¦) |

No, it's PAP: Planned Acquisition Program. I've been a good boy, biding my time, but there's been a maxro-sized hole in the bag since the Canons took flight. Plus, nothing really suitable for shallow DOF shots either. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :-) |

| An exceptionally nice feature of this lens is that the focusing collar clicks backward to set the camera in manual focus mode, and forward for autofocus. Super-quick and intuitive. I haven't had a chance to shoot much yet, we've been occupied with getting things organized for a trip Penny's making this week. I do have a picture of the car's dashboard at f/2.8 LOL. I'll load that up :-) |

Congrats on the new acquisition! Interesting that Sony went that route with the clutch AF- Tamron had done it in the past with mixed reviews. I never got my hands on one to try it out in practice, though it seemed like an intuitive interface. |

Ya gonna have some fun with that! I do like the concept of the "clutch" AF switch as it lets you switch between AF and MF without leaving "shooting position." The Canon lens isn't bad in that respect; if you know where the switch is it can be operated with the thumb while the hand supports the lens, but it's not as intuitive as using the focus ring. I still miss having a aperture ring, which even Nikon has ditched with the G lenses.

LOL, I resemble that remark. At last count I had no less than four macro lenses, none of which I really regard as redundant. For the record:
1.) The Canon 100/2.8 IS Macro (infinity focus up to 1x magnification)
2.) The Canon MP-E65 (1x to 5x magnification)
3.) Steinheil 35/2.8 macro lens that goes to from infinity focus up to 1.8x magnification. Dates from the '60s, in Exakta format adapted to EOS
4.) Steinheil 135/2.8 macro lens, similar to (3) but only to 1x. This is the only one that might arguably be redundant.

| And I've never been WITHOUT a macro lens except over the past year after switching to the a7r. It was a difficult year :-) |

| I've read great reviews on the new Sony. I'm really envious. I have the Canon 60D and since you're familiar with the Canon what lenses would you recommend as a good, not break the bank, wide angle lens. Another question, what is the biggest difference other than distance with the Canon ef 100 macro And the Canon efs 60 macro lens? |
