Neither do I when I get this on my spreadsheet:
112 5.8836 659 3 24 8.0000

115 5.8348 671 3 12 4.0000
A three vote average of 8 and then a three vote average of 4. Nothing but very positive feedback though, so I'll take it.

I started around 6.2 and have been dropping ever since.

Thank you to all for the comment. At least there some positive things there.

HEAY! if you think you suck what do you think of us who are nowhere NEAR a 5.9ish score? *snifSnif* *big-sad brown eyes*

:) J/k.... hehe u know a score that close to 6 is nothing to sneeze at u kno' ;) :-D I saw my score start out at a 7 and tank to a 5 from there (i'm still rather happy with being average since I got the consolation prize of great comments!!) I'd be delighted with a 5.9... but for now i'm just delighted with my 13 great comments :) :-D at least people like my submission its the most comments i've ever had :) :-D

I haven't had this many comments for a sub-6 image in a long time. Lots of great constructive feedback too.

11 comments, 6.1x score, AND a favorite? I think I might consider being happy.

Bah this has been sitting on 5.9 for a couple of days. I wish it would either drop to 5.7 or climb to 6, 5.9 is so frustratng.

I don't think my image was a 10, but I don't feel that a 4.9 is accurate either..... GRRRRR!!!!

Nice comments though.

I think that if you rate someone below a 5 that you should be required to comment. As a matter of fact that is my new rule. If I rate anyone below a 5 I will comment so they understand why I feel like that.

So you are saying that if someone votes a shot below average they should comment.. sorry, but in this challenge there are a LOT of below average shots, I cant be bother to comment on that many.

ON a subnote, does anyone actually read what the challenge is about these days? or do people just enter for the sake of putting a shot in? I mean, if someone actually makes an effort to stick to the challenge, I will generally `try` to give them a 4 or 5 off the cuff, but if someone enters a shot that is so tenuously linked to the challenge, or not at all, they will be lucky to score anything above a 3 from me, and thats if I am feeling generous. There is a classic example of that in this challenge, obviously cant say which shot but I think its pretty evident.

I actually find that pretty insulting.

I am far from lazy but sometimes a shot is so dreadful that it doesn't need to be told why I gave it a 1 or a 2. I would rather comment on someone who has at least made an effort but fallen short on several areas, they deserve a comment more than someone who has entered for the sake of it, or just said "oh look, that light has a kind of dappley effect", take a snapshot and enter it.

If you make the effort to take a good or interesting shot I will comment on it, even if it isnt that great .I feel no urge wasting my time commenting when I dish out a score of one or two when the picture obviously deserves it.

I have to agree with Simms, but, also Simms, my past five images in the last 5 challenges have been above a 5.6 and higher and you have not commented on any of those.

As a matter of fact, even though some of my images made the leap to a dismal 4. something since last October of 2007, you haven't commented on any of those either.

I too am guilty of not commenting on your stuff, correct?

The point being, lazy is not the correct adjective. I would have to say "selective" is a better choice of words.

And yes, like Simms said, I'll comment on images that need to be commented on, but I will not just put "Nice Shot", or "Try Again" as a comment. That type of commenting does nothing.

What if your definition of meeting a challenge, and theirs are different? Why not comment so that they understand. You may think sonmeone was lazy but they really went out trying to shoot for a particular challenge. I think scores should be lower for not meeting a challenge but at least give them a dnmc comment or something so that they can think over how it didn't meet it. I know for myself I shot for this challenge. I also know that even though the image has dappling, and it's light source is solely dappled light people may not agree. They may want it so dappled that I feel like I'm looking at poka dots of light. Not my personal take on dappled light. We all look at things differently and that's the beauty of DPC, and the way that we each grow.

I agree with some points but disagree with others..

What if your definition of meeting a challenge, and theirs are different?

I like to think I am of a relatively average intelligence and pretty open to creative translations of a particular topic, and can generally see if someone was trying to accomplish something within the spirit of the challenge and not just `shoe horning` it in. Two words.. Common Sense.

" think scores should be lower for not meeting a challenge but at least give them a dnmc comment or something so that they can think over how it didn't meet it."

But why? I would say that these days, on average, (and in my humble opinion) roughly 30% of images in a challenge barely meet the criteria. I think to say DNMC on those images insults the intelligence of the people who have entered them, they probably know this already and are just chancing their luck. People like things spelled out in Black and white these days, it seems Common Sense has taken a back seat.. there are people on here who like to think they are in a court room and will try to put spin on things etc, but people, please, just apply some good old fashioned COMMON SENSE. I am not saying I think we should all enter images that adhere to the challenge EXACTLY, and I would hate to restrict the creativity that some people demonstrate, but even some of the `clever` images still stick to the spirit of the challenge. In fact its those ones that generally tend to do quite well.

At the end of the day, if you shoot a killer image, dont shoe-horn it into a challenge just for the sake of it, in most cases adding a clever title wont do it any favours, save it for the monthly free study and see how it stand up on its own merits..

If you have to craft a clever title so the image fits the challenge, then the chances are you are dropping towards that DNMC line.

I didn't enter in this challenge (I choose Movie Titles and it's doing bad /sigh/) but the challenge itself is very interesting. I took my time to vote on all entries and commented more than 80%. I'm pleased to see it is one of the most commented challenges. I think a lot depends on SC and their choice of challenge topics as well. Well defined challenges bring more comments. Simple as that. I wish luck to all "Dappled Light" participants. It was a pleasure to go through your entries :)
