Sweet! Here in southern California (specifically Orange County), there are tons of marinas and boats--sailboats, yachts, kayaks, canoes, paddle-boats, houseboats, RC boats, wave-runners, jet-skis, Zodiacs, electric boats, ferry boats, dinner cruisers, party boats, . . .

Yeah that's a REALLY good idea. Even if I don't use it for this challenge I'll have to check it out sometime this summer.
And I am not sharing this good idea. :)

i lived in botswana for 6years - a landlocked desert 1000's of k from the ocean. there was, however, a yacht club on the main reservoir. what desperate expats will do for sailing... you did have to be careful of crocodiles in the shallows... |
And how about the annual regatta in Alice Springs? If there's water in the river, it gets cancelled... ;-) |

As a testimony to the addicting nature of dpc.
This past week, I spent 4 days in Washington, DC with a colleague (NOT a dpcer, not even a photography buff) from the community college where I work for a training *thing.* I had explained to her "dpc" and the weekly challenges and what not. I had also whined some about it being a "boat" challenge this week (I was really hoping for a "famous places" or "monument" challenge or something like that).
For the entire four days, she pointed out every boat we saw. . . |

BeeCee, hope you're out shooting today, it's beeyootiful. (Took mine on btfl Wednesday, but cannot decide just exactly how I want to tweak it. Something tells me there is something there.... Little muttergrumble). |

My girlfriend and I have gone camping and left on Sundays to beat crowds, only to use the last bit of reception we can find to call late Sunday night(rollover is 9 pm for me) to find out what the challenge is. My girlfriend is quite understanding. :)
Unfortunately this weekend it is raining so probably no boat challenge for me. |

OK, all week I have been going around taking poctures of boats. Like I said, I am surrounded by boats and I bet I took pics of 50 or more different boats this week. Now, to choose one for the challenge! So far that I can see, none of them are "WOW" photos, some are crappy, most are so-so. I will have to go through them all tomorrow, ask my partner for his opinion and cross my fingers.

Nope :( And, last I heard, tomorrow the crap weather's supposed to be back...
I did take a bunch yesterday but there's nothing that excites me, maybe a couple 5.5's in the pack.
Eta; well, seems the front will hold enough that mayyybeee tomorrow I can get something that'll get into the top 50% :)
The only problem with the pressure not changing is that the Swiftsure yacht racers are left without any wind! (rare here to have it THIS calm)
Worst thing is, I HAVE a canoe, but it needs a repair that we just haven't gotten to yet :(

I don't see anything in the challenge description which says the subject of your photo has to be under way, or even in/on the water ... mine is both, and will probably get a 4.6 anyway. |

ugh I have wanted to take a trip to newfoundland for years now. I need to see more of this country Ontario and a little Quebec doesn't do it justice. |

The description said boats, ships, etc. So it mean one boat is not allow or the dnmc troll will come out |

Lol, yeah, I swear that some trolls dissect the descriptions word by word, looking for something to DNMC on. |

Talk about "floating your boat," the locks in Ottowa would probably have worked well for this challenge ... unfortunately my only capture is on film, and misses the deadline by a mere 27 years or so ... ;-) |
