Because of the emphasis on the word TAKE being the decriptive word...

It doesn't say TAKE & EDIT

I do agree with this now Konador. I have been using this site as an educational source for my own benefit. I forget at times this is a competition.

and, Autool, I did take a picture. I took several of them from several sources. I also took an old picture from the film days and a stock photo of the earth. When there are NO edit restrictions one can create anything. at that point there are no rules. Pixel by pixel I can duplicate anything. It's just faster to use one that already exists and drop it in place. It also did not say to take a "digital" photo. These are all just implied rules for this challenge. I hope you can see both sides of this and I hope its clearer in future challenges.

Well, that's what Autool quoted. But the original challenge description says no-holds barred editing.

At the very top of the rules page, which everyone says they have read upon submitting a photo:

Any photograph submitted to a challenge must be taken with a digital camera and must follow these standards for submission:
File Format: JPEG (.jpg)
File Size: No larger than 150 kb.
Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 640 pixels.
Exposure Date: Your photograph must be taken within the submission dates for the challenge unless otherwise specified in the 'extra rules' section of the challenge.

In this case 'Exposure Date' was otherwise specifies in the 'extra rules' section of the challenge. So was Post-Shot adjustments. All other rules still apply

Konador, there were at least 4 "digital" photographs within my entry. With No editing restrictions that should have met the digital requirment. (at least it did in my mind at the time).

I'm not debating this with you, I'm just pointing out the where it can easily be misunderstood.

It did NOT say All other rules still apply.
I wish it would have.
It said: This is basically no-holds-barred and there are NO editing restrictions, Dig your old photos out, lets see what you can do.

I can understand the rules where YOU have to take the shots yourself, but this is a can of worms for this challenge.... I could see many photos that most likely have "stock photos" or "public doman" photos used as components of the challenge entry. This is just the most obvious one.

Hmm, too bad, I really like this entry! Sorry you got DQ'd.

Talking abut DQ'd... I saw in the Movies challenge a pic that looks like has been taking in a Museum. Does it pic a subject for DQ'd?? or is it legal?

Please request a DQ for any "photos" that you suspect, and the site council will investigate the issue further.

Description: Take a photograph that might give your viewer a glimpse of the future.

I see the word TAKE there clearly ...

I used digital quasar stars too, 8 of them. But I don't think anyone would even care. They were also from stock sources. They were not my work either. But once I included them in my entry, they became a part of my digital creation. So are they illegal to use in this challenge also. I'll bet nobody would even care. where exactly does one draw the line in a digital art contest.

Well Roboj, simply DQ it and vote on it as if it meets the challenge in every way. The problem with bringing this up in the forum, is that the voters will drop the score on these shots because you call attention to them. It is not fair to the photographer.

There are pictures of trains. they are someone else's trains. Pictures of buildings, sculptures. The key is to determine if the photographer added an artistic element to the original. It is far to subjective to define.

I have to say I gave you photo a 10. It was great. my photo to has been submitted for disqualification, we will see how that works out...

I am upset because I also thought that this was a "no holds barred" challange, and well I didn't hold back. I am kind of upset right now, because while I am being submitted for DQ at the same time I am getting the best votes and commits that I ever had, so obviously someone likes it.

Oh well, screw it.

Aaron
