Mine isn't changing a whole lot.
I really wish someone would tell me something I could improve on, though.
I had someone go "Cool!" and someone go "Pretty colors!" and that's it.
Doesn't tell me much.
I'd request a critique, but it isn't a fantastic image to start with..
I just want to know what others think. |

Leko, congrats! :D
And Joe, I'll try to remember to have a look after the challenge, kay?
Mine's .008 from tying my fifth best, and still slowly creeping up :) |

Thanks teto & BeeCee. Nice to be back in the fun again. When I moved down to BBY I got inspired to start shooting again. Having a new camera helped with that, of course. :) |

Passed my 6th and 5th best and now closing in on 4th :)
I don't think I've ever had a score that just kept steadily climbing and didn't find a "settling point", but I'm not complaining at all!

I think that we started with 173 or 174 and now there are 169. |

You could comment on mine instead :D
It's now surpassed my 4th best, but pretty sure it won't make it to 3rd.
I be happy!

Well.. I'm new here and I've been posting so many nasty comments in my first challenge that I'm afraid I'll have to change my username very soon! ;) |

Hey! I'm not that nasty! Just honest in my criticism. Some might think I'm throwing stones from a glass house, but it is my belief that one can have great eye for photographs although one hasn't got the equipment to take great and good quality photos. ;)
Well... here is my score:

I probably would have rated my own picture between 3 and 4. |

You don't always need great equipment to take great photos.
It has more to do with the person behind the camera.
..Which is why I'm spending fortunes on cameras and still failing miserably.

Gotta be somewhat thick skinned to "live" here. Grin!

I think the real talent comes from how you see things in your mind before you snap the photo. The ideas you get for the composition, angle, colours etc. But the over-all quality is often better if the picture is taken for example, with a lens that matches the subject and the right lighting. Good post-processing in Photoshop could also take you far. I therefore think simple digital cameras (like mine) have their limits in certain types of shots. You can't squeeze water from a stone if you know what I mean.
Damn I wish money grew on the trees! ;) |

I agree with you mostly.
But where there's will, there's a way.
Like this guy..
Saw a photo he took not long ago.
He took it with a low quality webcam.
It was a macro.
He took it by unscrewing the lens halfway and sticking a piece of paper into the side of it.. Or something.
He didn't exactly have a house of gold either,
but WOW was that ever a neat photo.
Alot of photo editing programs are free, too.
I use gimp.
My first entry (in portfolio) was taken with a 3.2 megapixel digital camera. It's a very old camera.
If you want to be like.. Amazingly professional, then yeah, you'll need the equipment,
but it isn't impossible to succeed without it.
But I do agree with you for the most part.
Just saying.

Well, you've only tried twice before this and one of those was a 4.79xx. :) Give it some time, and listen to the comments (40 on 2 entries) you've rec'd. On the last one it sounds like you knew it was blurry (OOF) but entered it nonetheless? |

I couldn't get the darn thing to work. Also, the egg was like.. Nonexistant according to my LCD. I couldn't tell whether it was focused or not. I couldn't even see it. I had to like.. Guess where it was.
By the time my brother came home, I was so frustrated, I just submitted the best one and went to bed. |

Do you have an exposure lock feature on your camera? Lock in the exposure based on the lighting conditions then use a flashlight (or lamp) to illuminate the subject enough to focus, turn off the light, and activate the shutter. Manual focus might help as well.
I can understand the frustration. :)
Anyway, sorry for the thread derailment folks, my bad... |
