Today I had to photograph Australia Day for the council. I had to start at 6-30am...and carrying around 12 kilo of gear all day is not fun. But I got the batched images down to 400 and there are some awesome images. Nevertheless I am sunburnt and exhausted. The morning was sunny (luckily for the lolly drop from the helicopter) but this afternoon it poured and poured with rain.
I had to laugh...the mayor gave me strict instructions that I was not to climb a tree to photograph the helicopter pilot...so I told him I would stand on his car instead...lmao!! Um...I did get the photo of the pilot...hehehehe!!

This image does not belong to me but to another Australian member wrobel.
This is the description he wrote.
"Was driving home when I noticed this trio out the front of their house with the flag flying. I went round the block and asked if I could get a shot of them with the flag and they were enthusiatic about that."

Just got back from leaders retreat, there was a MASSIVE fire down there on Australia Day and the plume of smoke obscured the Sun to such a degree the Sun was blood red. Awesome lighting conditions, asked the young daughters of the youth pastor to pose for me and ended up getting the best shot I have ever taken! Later that night we were warned we might have to evacuate the holiday village if the wind changed, fortunately it didn't.
Here is the photo of the Sun in the smoke.

I have just completed the processing of about 350 images from Australia Day. This was a commissioned job but with permission to take it to the public. So if you would like to have a gander then go ahead.
Please keep in mind these images have been reduced drastically for ease of webviewing. The large images have much more detail and clarity.

Fantastic job Judi, and I am proud to be an Aussie like you.
You really captured what we "Aussie" are, and that's a huge amount of pride of our country, and the love for its people.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I thank you personally, for making my Australia Day, much more memorable.....
