I will be in that area for a few weeks and would really appreciate any tips on places to photograph, esp places where I might find wildlife (raptors a definite plus) Thank you |

Scranton has a small zoo, but the animals there are usually asleep.

I would suggest you visit Michael, Jim, and Dwight at Dunder Mifflin paper company. Dwight might even let you take security photos for him. |

Thank you Maryba! I am very blessed to be spending time there indeed.. my best friend lives there and her lake house is on (surprise) a lake.. While she is a wonderful artist, she isn't a photography nut (like me) so I thought I would ask the great ppl on this forum if they had any suggestions. I will check out the sites you gave me and thank you very much for taking the time. |

Well, not necessarily. You're going to a medium-sized city with sprawling suburbs and you asked for wildlife... Scranton does have the Lackawanna Coal Mine and an interesting rail museum Steamtown National Park...also, Marywood U. Arboretum...and Electric City Trolley Museum...and lastly, here's a web site for you to explore: VisitPA.com
Hope that adds to your options. |

Thank you KaDi and my flip remark about Scranton not being the most exciting place in the world was a tongue and cheek response to the comments about the zoo and the paper company - wasn't meaning to be disrespectful about Scranton - I am very excited about my trip and will be staying about an hour away from the city. Thanks so much for your suggestions.. I will keep doing the research and hopefully come up with some wetlands in the area. |

And find out if Jim and Pam really hooked up. Those two are so meant for each other! ;-)

There is an environmental center/wildlife sanctuary in PA called "Hawk Mountain" which as the name implies has a strong focus on birds of prey. I'm not sure how close it is to Scranton. I think its south of Scranton and west of Allentown. It might be a bit of a drive, but it sounds like what you are looking for. Also, they might have suggestions for a place you can go that is closer to Scranton, if Hawk Mountain is too far.

MacClavey,
When will you be in Scranton? We are working on GTG somewhere around the Reading area... which is about an hour from Scranton. It would be awesome if you could make it down for that.
You can keep tabs on the GTG here.

I used to live close to Hawk Mountain. It's actually in a very small hamlet called Drehersville. It's between Orwigsburg and Hamburg and only a little more than an hour from Scranton. The scenery is wonderful, as it's part of the Appalacian Mountains. Let me know if you want more info about it. |
