Roxanne,

Thanks for keeping us up to date. I have signed up for and downloaded the form for the Florida State Parks 2005/2006 photo contest. Although with all the great people attending this GTG (as well as the ones who live here who aren't!) I am sure the competition will be stiff!

The South FL GTG is being rescheduled.

I apologize for my part in hijacking this thread. After the original GTG has taken place, let's resume our discussion in a new thread.

If you did not receive a PM concerning this, please contact me to discuss it.

sounds good either way ...

Daytona is a bit closer for us central florida folk - so again ... the 2nd-8th is when buzzrock was coming to town ... whats gonna work the best in your schedule, buzzrock?

i know for me and my boyfriend it would have to be a weekend day and within the 2nd-8th the 8th works best for us ...

Okay - I may seem like the bad guy here, but I'm gonna go for it anyway.

Roxanne,

I don't see that you hijacked a thread. I carefully read this thread from the beginning. Althought started by Buzzrock, it was started by a question. He asked if anyone would be intested in meeting in Daytona. all you did was answer his question stating that you would not be interested in Daytona, and then suggested an alternative.

Reading the thread from the beginning, it is easy to see that it was through communcation and suggestions from all of us that migrated the GTG further south. I see no intention by any one person move the GTG from Daytona. There is no reason for fingers to be pointed at you.

I am saddened because I was really looking forward to the GTG and worked hard to make sure that both my wife and myself had that weekend off. It's a shame that the whole deal has to be put off.

I think that you did an admirable job coordianting this GTG.

Much respect to you.

That being said, I (we)would be intersted in meeting with anyone in Daytona. It would be nice to meet some fellow DPC'ers and hopefully Buzzrock can guide us through the wilds of Daytona Beach.

I shoot there often and enjoy it.

Did anyone consider the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge? //www.fws.gov/merrittisland/

This is an excellent park for photography. It is a huge area surrounding Kennedy Space Center. You have everything from wetlands to forests along with one of the few undeveloped pristine beaches on Florida's east coast (also one of the few nude beaches...but that is only the far north part). You also have the shuttle launch pads visible in the distance and are about a 10 minute drive from the space center. There is just about every kind of Florida wildlife available here and many miles of roads and trails to gain access to them.

I know the original request was for daytona and this is fairly close to that (about 30-45 minutes south of daytona and 45 minutes from Orlando).

A big question should be too - what do we do if we don't hear back from buzzrock? I know Roxanne has stated in this thread and PM'ed him directly to apologize and to let him know that there are still fellow DPC'ers who would like to get together with him around the Daytona area....

But if no one hears from him - do we still reschedule ours? Or do we still set up two separate GTG? I know some people had to arrange their schedule to be available the 8th and 9th. It would be a shame for them to lose out on a GTG if buzzrock does not respond.
Personally, for anyone who still wants to get together the 8th-9th closer to Daytona (Maybe Merritt as suggested above?) I am still willing to drive out and join. I should also be able to make another GTG at Jonathan Dickinson later on as well.

Perhaps I should have put the SF GTG on "hold" until someone hears from buzzrock. It seems like a few people have gone to a lot of trouble to attend it.

Should we wait a day or two to find out what buzzrock wants to do?

I like the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge idea too.

I'm open to meeting with smaller groups in different places and different times.

Well...maybe we should break this up into two different GTG. I know some people arranged their schedule to be available the 8th-9th. We could have a group GTG and go to Merritt? If Buzzrock needs transportation - I could swing by and pick him up along the way. I know from his original post that he was going to be here on vacation so I am not sure if he was driving or flying and will need to leave by a certain date or time?

And then plan another one a little further out for those who could not make it that weekend to go to Jonathan Dickinson? As well as those who attended the first GTG who might want to attend this one too? I know in the thread there were some people who really wanted to join us but couldn't make it that particular weekend.

I will be available to attend anything on the east coast after the 15th of April. I know that doesn't sway anyone and shouldn't, but if something gets delayed let me know!

I just heard from buzzrock:

"Sorry I havent gotten back to you sooner.
I really don't care that you organized a gtg for South Florida, or that
it was in my thread.
Go ahead with what ever plans you made, Its not a big deal, honestly..

Tim."

This was my answer:
"Thanks! That makes me feel better.
The only way I'd proceed with the scheduled SF GTG would be if you were
able to attend. Otherwise, we'll postpone it. Like I said before: We
all live in FL and can do it anytime.

There are some people who would like to meet up near Daytona. They are
waiting for your response in your thread. Merritt Island is another
good suggestion. If you do something like that, I'd probably go too; but
I'm going to stay out of the thread and let you plan it.

Cheers,
Roxanne"

I'm hoping he will show up soon and plan something for the week he's in town. After that's set up, I'll resume our SF GTG discussion in a new thread. It would be great if everyone who had made plans for the 8th & 9th could still get together and even better if all of those people could also gtg at JDSP later, with the others who weren't going to make it.

I hope that this isn't going to be the only GTG you guys arrange for each other, so why not change this one to planning the 8-9th GTG only, and start new threads for later GTGs as and when you feel like organising them? :o)

Sounds good to me. Let's assume we'll gtg, either way. We can make buzzrock's location the first choice. If he decides not to participate, we'll continue on with the other plan, since people have gotten off work for that weekend.

If we go north the 8th & 9th, we'll reschedule JDSP in a new thread.

buzzrock...are you up for something that weekend? We just need to know something so that we can make plans.
03/10/2006 04:47:51 AM · #114
OK, it's obvious that nothing is happening here. I've decided that I'm going ahead with original plans, and have started a new thread.

Anyone who is still interested in JDSP on the 8th and 9th, let's resume our discussion there.
