For some reason, head shots of horses like this seem to work a little better if they are facing right............I know, weird, but just a thought.........
I like the processing, the effect you have acheived is different, and as a result, this does stand out. Not sure on the square crop though. I would have cropped a little off the top, and given a little more to the left (or right if you mirrorred it) giving the horse somewhere more to look........... | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/05/2009 12:09:43 PM | Shipwreck by OdieComment: Great locationb....Will be interested to see where this is after the challenge. Maybe just a little close though, the crop seems to be a little too close for me. The placement is good, but a love panoramic, and feel a little space to the left, and even more to the right (keep the boat on the third line) would have made a stunning view, even better that this is. Long exposure works really well, coloours are great as well................ | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/04/2009 12:17:59 PM | Waiting for a Cabby tmorninglory96Comment: Maybe he is. The image is really busy, with too many things trying to catch my eye. The green light, the buildings, the moving car, and due to the title, the man. Without the title, I would have almost missed him really...........even the sky is competing for the focus point............ | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/04/2009 12:12:46 PM | As Ramona Diesby essayComment: Dont get the title, but that is just me. Its a photography contest so in that sense, it does notmatter.
A crisp, clean, great capture of the flower. The compositon of this is really very good, and I think something that took a little thought and arranging................It works really well.
Maybe the green in the leaves is a touch overdone, but the purple of the flower is brilliant and right.........just nudging the green sat down a touch might have removed the slight fake look on some areas of the leaves, but thats a minor thing.
The border, honestly, its a bit of nothing. Looks more to me like you wanted a little extra black space, so went with a purple 1pxline to be the least obtrusive. I think a thinker line (2px) and them being a little closer to the flower, giving wider black bands, would have finished it off a little better..
But, minor things. A really good image........... | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/04/2009 12:07:46 PM | Kaiserpfalzby h2Comment: Tye composition of the image is very right leaning. There is little on the left, and the main attention grabbing elements, the building, is in the far right of the image, partly cut off as well............To make the rocks and water more the subject, I think you needed a slightly more panoramic view, with some more space to the left of the image to move the building away from the line of third. I presume the rocks are meant to be a feature of this image. But in the black and white, this does not really work for me. I would have removed the lowest part of the rocks, and included some more sky, moving the horizon down to the 1/3 line, and with the space to the left included, would have made a stronger image for me............. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/04/2009 12:02:00 PM | Skykomish River Rocksby davehamComment: Firstly, befire I get to the photo, is there a reason you chose to submit at 600px wide, instead of the maximum 720px........maybe it was to get under 200kb, but is is better, usually, to adjust the "quality" rather than shrinking the photo.........
An interesting collection of rocks with some nice and subtle tones through them. The refelections are good through this image, however the number of rocks, and the apttern they are in, does lead the eyes through the picture searching a little for a subject...........the rocks seem to make an s pattern through the image............. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/03/2009 01:09:18 AM | Abu Ghraib revisitedby MephistoComment: It is always interesting to see the reactions of people when someone presents a photo with a political meaning, that does not fit into the viewers perfect little box of what the Challenge should contain.................When people see nudes, they think of nice, soft pictures of females in various poses. They don't think of the use of nudity to portray a Social or Political message.
And then there are those that will disagree with the message, or those that think there is no place for such a message in a forum, or those that just can't see past the bloodied reality that is todays society.
This is a classic example of some people not seeing the message, or not willing to see how important this type of photography is...........
There are some technical issues with the image which some people have pointed to, but overall, I think you should be proud of the reaction you have created..........an image I feel that many just didn't get, or weren't willing to open their mind to understand.

| 10/03/2009 12:44:06 AM | Life and death in the gardenby trevytrevComment: Although a shallow depth of field is needed to bring the subject out from the surroundings, I think your depth of field is a little too shallow here, due to the areas on the captured prey that are out of focus, which distravys from the overall effect | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/03/2009 12:42:54 AM | Diffusionby HighNoonerComment: The different layers of the hills and the differrent shades they are due to the mist always makes for an interesting scene. Not sure about the tree on the side though. And even though the shades through this are a feature,. the overall green/grey feel of the image is a little flat. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/03/2009 12:41:11 AM | Golden Sunsetby LeoComment: Great sunset capture. The colours in here arenice withoout being overdone. The refelections through the water really add to the photo. The use of the three pillars, of different sizes also really balances this photo and makes for an effective capture....... | Photographer found comment helpful. |
