I really like the sense of tranquility. The colors are a bit flat; I'm not sure they could be brought out more without making the picture too overdone to work, though, given the light that was present.

Statue of Christ

This is a great shot - very imposing and impressive - but I have a little trouble with the title. The statue is indeed in the center, but it's small enough that the title sent me searching for it, rather than enjoying the imposing effect of the architecture, or the reflections of the sky on the window behind it, both of which draw my attention much more than the statue, which is to my eyes less-impressive against the scale and solidity of the building and sky.

Fascinating statue - and I love the colors and the water-color-ish look of the background. The statue itself is a bit dark, though, the details indistinct. I would have liked to be able to see the stone of the faces more clearly.

I like this one - but it's a bit busy. I gather by the title that I should be looking to her, but my eye catches on her, then roams to the pole to her side, then follows the hanging across and down, then catches on the "Dulcimer" sign and follows it right out of the frame. The picture is very busy - a tighter focus on her might have helped? (So might a shallower depth but I don't see how you could get her crisp and keep all the elements that distracted blurry....)

Very crisp shot. I'm not sure that the decision to have it in black and white wasa good one, though. I find it busy and hard to look at - even though the fairly shallow depth of focus theoretically keeps the foreground crisp and background blurry, the values are so close that I find it's not too comfortable to look at, that I have to work a little to pull that information out. It's a tiring image to look at, because I'm not sure what to make of most of it, or where to rest my eyes.

I think the photo you entered in the challenge was the right choice, technically and for the challenge. But this one is absolutely gorgeous; of the two, this is the one that makes me want to hang on to it. I love the multiple strikes.

This is a great shot, and gorgeous. And I agree with earlier comments - don't be too modest about this! It is a lot knowing where to point your camera and when, and being willing to take the time and focus to do so. It sure sounds like this storm made the photography a lot easier than a milder storm would, but that doesn't make this photo any less impressive or any less to your credit, IMO. Right place, right time - still only matters if you have what's needed to take advantage of it!

This is a neat one for this topic and the focus and framing are nice. I find teh triple-flash from the earring very distracting, though - my eyes keep going back to it as if it was meant to be the subject of the photo, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Nice subject. Focus is an issue - the edges of her hair are blurred - and she's got a pretty serious case of red-eye as well. Some retakes on this to try to get a clearer picture (of the girl: the background being blurred out is good) might have been good.

Very crisp picture, and I like the lack of color here...but it doesn't say surprise to me, very much. There's nothing in the picture that conveys to me that it was a surprise, only that I am being told (by the fact that it's in this challenge) that it is. A very nice picture, though.
