In my opinion there are a few things wrong with this picture - The Focus of this shot should be the knife as the title of the challenge is silverware. Secondly, the hand is distracting. You also need to put more thought into the background, the reflection on the appliance is also very distracting.

I think the main thing i'm getting at here is that there is no particular point of focus and that there is too much going on in the shot. I like the idea and it could have been effective if you'd put more thought and planning into it.

If I were to attempt a shot like this, I would have the dog sit on a white sheet, have some soft lighting, put the knife in front of him and snap away.

Cool idea and awesome paint job but I think the light is too harsh, She needs a back light and one set up at 45degrees and above her. Also she doesn't look particularly comfortable, possibly adjust the position a bit... I really like it though.
