Night Fumes by HauxonComment: This is my favorite image from the challenge. Even though this isn't a typical "pollution" it works well for the challenge. The light is extremely menacing to the scene yet it adds a lot to the image and that shows the pollution aspect. Its also an interesting building that is super streamlined and minimalistic which hints at no pollution, yet because of the challenge name it leaves some mystery to the building and suggests the fact that the building at hand may be hiding something bad. |

Pumpsby visionistComment: I think that this was the best shot in the challenge. For all the people that said it doesn't meet the challenge requirements: the subject of the photo is "topless". Its a building that holds a bunch of topless things. I think it works fine but everybody that didn't is just taking things too literal and wants to see a snapshot with the top of something cut off. I love the cool tones too. |

It's Only Rock and Roll.... But I LIKE It.by GraineyComment: Signal2Noise obviously cares more about proper exposure, rules, and his personal preferences than he does about the emotion or excitement of a scene. If you would have used a slower shutter speed then the motion probably would have been blurred. If you would have used a slower ISO then you would have had to expose for longer using a slower shutter speed and the motion would have blurred that way too. I think that, if anything, in my opinion the stagehand could have been brought out even more by curving up and then increasing the contrast. About cutting out the rest of the band, or having the shot too centered, thats another thought to be examined. Its sad that one guy just said "to centered". If he wanted to help you get better then he should have said "in my opinion, I think that the use of space on the left side of the frame is a little too much and I find the extra to be a bit distracting to the eye. I would have either composed the photo slightly more to the right to include more of the security worker and less of the empty space on the left or simply cropped the image a bit during post-processing to give a composition that is slightly more on the simple side which then puts more attention on the guitarist, drummer, and security worker. And to everybody else that commented, who cares if the guitarist's face is blocked? This isn't meant to be a portrait!
Originally posted by signal2noise: slower shutter or ISO would give better light with this image and the fact that the subject's face is blocked doesn't help. Also, curve this darker and the stagehand would not be so obvious. |

It's Only Rock and Roll.... But I LIKE It.by GraineyComment: I love the photo dad. I didn't really get a chance to look through any of the challenges so I didn't vote or comment. This is a really great shot though, nice angle and good exposure.

Light at the End of the Tunnelby GraineyComment: I think this shot deserved a higher rating than it got. It really should not have been in the last 100. The one thing that I would say is that the sky is a little blown out. Some clouds would help break it up so its not so white or a tad less on the exposure side would have helped a bit. I'll email you what I did to change the photo. All I did was crop it a bit and change the saturation. Message edited by author 2007-06-10 23:11:42. |
