Moto Mayhemby QuickClickMickComment: Interesting side fact: Many countries legally require motorcycle drivers to wear helmets but not passengers. |

They will never forget herby JudiComment: This is the best photo in this free study. Not as clean or well executed technically but still very good and it tells a fantastic story. The composition is fantastic. |

Between Heaven and Earth by DudskiComment: You have no idea how badly I wish I was up in the mountains right now. I can almost smell the crisp air just looking at this. Fine job, you get extra props for that 1000m scramble above 4000m. Even with a good trail that is a lot of work at that altitude.
The votes of 1,2 and 3 are just uncalled for. I can think of no reason for them other than trying to squeak their own photo onto the front page. Bad form on their part. I'm sorry, but there is nothing so seriously wrong with this photo that it deserves a 3 or lower. I have seen this problem on other great photos as well. I decided I had to say something this time.
Also, someone commented on how the sky looks so dark. The blue sky is the result of the blue end of the spectrum being scattered in the air. If the air did not scatter any light the sky would always be black. Compared to sea level there is 5000m less air to scatter the light. In fact at 5000m the air pressure is about half of what it is at sea level. This suggests about half the air, by mass not volume, is below him. As a result of less scattering the sky is darker. That should also give an idea of how much work it is to climb at that altitude as well. Congrats. |

Twilight Hour by Brent_SComment: This is amazing, look at the depth in that photo. Not to mention the composition and the colors. I wish I would have voted. |

Descent from the Cross by De SousaComment: Originally posted by HawkeyeLonewolf: Wow... Amazingly offensive to those of the Christian faith. |
I, like toddhead, am a Christian and a fairly conservative one at that. I don't think this is offensive at all. Maybe at an initial glance but the more I look at it just feels right. I think this captures the essence of the moment. It is just a little non-traditional.
As a medic I love how this also illustrates the teamwork between the medic and the firefighter. The firefighters are removing him from the cross, like extrication from a crumpled car, and passing him to the medics who are right there ready to do their part. There are just so many interesting elements. I could probably write a 20 page essay on this photo without running out of material. This is one of the best I've ever seen on dpc. It is very deserving that it would win this challenge. Brilliant work. You are the man. |

Faith, falling on a threadby delinComment: It looks like he just has his shoes off for the belay. I miss climbing. For a second I had that 'oh crap' feeling you get when you fall on lead. Thank you. |
